The reason why I asked my question, is because my mum (in her infinate wisdom) bought a portable digital satellite receiving kit from Lidl for £70.
It comes in a plastic flight case, and contains a dish, DVB FTA DSAT receiver and all the necessary cables and connectors.
It's designed for people who go caravanning, but it looks ideal for anoraks who want to tune into European channels without having to meddle with the main sky dish which is attatched to the chimney of my mums house.
I was fiddling with my own sky dish this morning, which is just outside my upstairs window. I didn't manage to pick up anything, and I did lose my Sky channels briefly, but when I pushed the dish back to its original position, the Signal Quality and Signal Strength meters shot right up! So my fiddling wasn't completely in vain!

Not sure if your minidish is big enough to pick up a good enough signal from the mainland europe-footprint satellites. I have a second minidish pointed at the old analogue Sky satellite (perfect for 2 free german music channels and porn after 2am
