Err - because Emirates are receiving live BBC World - not pre-recorded stuff. I guess they could stress this more - however they are receiving updates in-flight, rather than on the ground?
If you follow the link posted above you will see that the INMARSAT satellites (also used for sat phones on planes) - are now carrying compressed live video on their three satellite system, which planes are able to receive. (Whether this uses the Boeing Connexion system - or a similar steerable / diversity reception system I don't know) The chief difference is that it is live - or at least almost live. (Interesting that they seem to insert their own adverts prior to uplink - presumably this partially funds the service?!)
