Well. Technically. Lighiting has a right or wrong. It could be entirely out. Or Really Bright.
See. Not just fresh air between my ears.

Technically nothing! Would you like to explain to me about 3-point lighting?
What 'technically' should be the ratio's between key/soft & back lights?

It's all subjective & whatever the lighting director fancies on the day

I can't wait either. The spelling mistake is fixed now. Might not appear fixed unless you delete the cached verion of the animation.

There isn't a technically correct ratio but it can look wrong. i do lighting for theatre and i am aware that it can sometimes take a while to perfect.

But I would've thought it was all programmed into the desk.

TV lighting is totally different to theatre. You don't need to model in theatre, coz your audience has 3D vision (well, hopefully!)
There is a technical specification for ratios between keys/softs/backs in TV, but that's the 'ideal'. What the LD does & likes is subjective.

Saying that though, the LD for Midlands today needs their eyes testing as mentioned in other threads! Smile

We just have trouble finding bits of gel big enough, no one buys any you see Smile

And finding two lights which are roughly the same

Smile I know what you mean! The old PAR cans eh?
I used to do lighting in a theatre too... I miss it immensly. There's great satisfaction from lighting a show well & getting comments from the audience as they leave. My best show was 'Noises Off', but there's intentional c**k-ups in that, so it was great! ha ha Smile

Well, we have enough trouble fitting quartets, let alone PARcans!

Sorry to go O.T., but have you ever played with VariLights?
Old technology now, but I think still the best Smile

If you mean like the Martin 600/500 then no, but I wouldn't mind!

well kingrikk, nice to see someone trying to exploit my work...

i will protect all future flash animations, as its bad enough importing it, but publicly saying you have!

The music i used was from the 10min Parliament remix, as it has a faster beat, similar to the clip i heard.

If some insiders could ablige with still clips in the proper colours, and some music info, as i am sure it is a slight remix of the n24 countdown just a beat change.

CAN SOMEONE MAKE THE HEADLINES BED CONSISTANT!!!!!

All depends who's on Sound at any particular period as to what sound levels you get. Some prefer to slam the sound into the limiters so you hear PPM5.5-6, some prefer PPM4.

Sound is subjective - there is no right or wrong, as is lighting

But that's not right is it, the sound shouldn't be done according to the preference of the sound person, can you imagine if BBC News 24's headlines were done in the same way!

Can't the sound be set to pre-defined levels, so it's just a case of switching the sound on or off, or can't this be done?

How come BBC News 24 get it right, but not World, World has the better headlines bed, which is why I get infuriated!

You'll go far Harshy - lol !!!

Audio balance is a subjective thing.  But you always seem to complain that the World vamp isn't loud,  and not in yer face. Surely that would be distracting from the important thing..... the words, pics and actuality.  Just because 24's vamp is apparently louder, it maybe that it is designed that way.

I guess that if the World vamp is consistantly 'in your opinion' low, then maybe that is the correct level for it.  The sound person rotates normally every hour, so I think it is you who is incorrect, not the dozen or so skilled BBC sound mixers.

From where I sit in the transmission chain, it always sound fine to me.  And believe me, I have seen a lot of BBC World.

And finally, I know that with Techy Peep you couldn't be closer to getting the experts opinion on this matter than he has given.

Maybe you should lend the BBC your golden ears. Very Happy
