Something before the 90 Second countdown? (January 2004)

I was just watching World, at least 2.5 min before the TOTH.
The broadcast feed messed up and the billboards weren't displayed. Instead a decorative animation along the lines of the old BBC World graphics with a 'hint' of the new ones was flashed up, with the countdown music behind.. by the sounds of it I guess around the 40 second mark.

It was promptly scrambled off to black and then the billboard's came on.

I was wondering where the '90 second' length came from. Is this official, or just that it's the highest anyone has ever seen?

They could easily take a loop point somewhere along the line and just repeat the audio and only need a 90 second UCL graphic.

Did anyone else see it?

BBC World's countdowns always have been 60 seconds long, and remain so. The 90 second countdown belongs to News 24. Don't really know where the 90 sec World countdown myth came from - probably from the re-launch thread!!

I mean that it's conceivable that the "tape" contains more than 60/90 seconds of footage. It's just that they've never broadcasted it.

I've seen an 84 on the origial N24 countdown, 68 on the first one with the real life image and 54 on the latest one.

But why would they? What on earth would be the point. News 24 has a longer countdown because there's a limit to how many promos can be shown before the viewer switches over. BBC World has the Breakfiller and commercials.

Well the full music tracks are 60 and 90 seconds respectively for BBC World and BBC News 24, so why would they have extra "footage" (albeit a globe with a number for World), with no music to accompany it?

Well 'itsrobert' the actual video footage is long is it not. Does it not extend further than the 00 marked on Screen just incase nothing happens. I'm sure I was lucky enough to see such a thing.. not on screen tho. lol

Yes, it does extend for a short time after '00' is reached, but I was talking about the other direction. Wink

I remember on the News 24 relaunch day the new countdown was played with the old music, but out of sync, which meant the Countdown reached 00 before the music, staying on until it crashed into The World Today.

There should be resignations for these terrible mistakes!

Or a costly, one sided inquiry blaming the BBC for everything

I've seen it again, for 10 seconds of glistening shiney graphics with countdown music 2.5 min before the TOTH. I'll try and get some caps if I see it again!

Also, I've jsut seen a 48 second countdown on World. Go figure Razz

So there is more than 30 seconds on world, so theoretically there's no reason why there isn't more on the reel for N24 and World as well over and above the 90.

I'm still intested to know where the 90 second 'fact' came from?

The sun is hot, that is a 'fact'. The world is round, that is a 'fact'. The BBC News 24 countdown is 90 seconds long, that is a 'fact'. There really is nothing to challenge here!
