This first half is for people who can view BBC World, the second part is for those who can't and have never seen it.
The ident used at 30 minutes past the hour, the video for which was on TVHome, is different from the one I've seen on BBC World today. It used to be more high-pitched than it is, plus the background bed fades out after about 5 seconds, leaving just the CA's voice. ' |B|B|C| WORLD ' also appears at a different time from normal, and the whole of the theme is different. Does anyone know whether this has changed recently, or whether the two idents change periodically?

New LIVE aston? I've seen two different types of LIVE astons today - the first was the normal BBC News one - the one next to the name aston; and the second one was similar to the 'Breaking News' aston, in the top-left hand corner, with the black panel behind the DOG. Weird. I don't normally watch BBC World, so I don't know whether this is a new thing or not.

SECOND HALF STARTS HERE
If you've never seen BBC World, you're really missing out. I suggest that as Thomas Cook say, 'It's time to leave the country'!
Italy have no adverts on World at all, so I get a clean feed of the break-filler every fifteen minutes!! The filler is 2 minutes long, as opposed to the 1.5 minute one available on TV Home, which is a shame cos the first part is quite groovy!!, and has 4 separate sections filled with Latest News, Sport, Stock Markets, and then Coming Up. The overnight bed used on News 24 doesn't have the thunderclaps, as featured on IsonstineTV, but World actually uses these, which sounds much better. I think when I get in later I'll have to watch the overnight changeover from World to News 24 when I get in tonight, so I can see the n24 studio with World DOGs!
PS I leave tomorrow morning so I can't use TV Home till Saturday! <sob> oh well. I hope to be on later! (everyone's probably thinking 'Oh, great, not him again!') Bye bye!

Here in Holland we get till nine o'clock BBC World without adverts. It's a bit strange, because after nine o'clock we get BBC World with adverts.

I will watch the new ident.

Mark, they use both of them periodically. And that dates back to the flags era.

There are 3 versions of the symbol:

5' fast
5' slow with rumble
7' slow with rumble

The one that is used is dependent of the pace you wish to create, or, more often than not to fit available time.

Surprised you have a 'core' version of World. There often isn't adverts on Europe during the daytime, but from very early morning until mid-morning is usually quite full of ads.

Breakfiller throughout the day varies in length, anywhere from 1 to 3 mins in 30' chunks.

Actually the 2mb version of BBC World theme on TV Home is 2mins30secs, not 1min30secs as shown!! Smile It includes 'Coming Up', 'Sport', 'News', 'Business' and 'Weather'.

You will be able to download it from Sunday.

BBC World have had a top left and a bottom left LIVE graphic for quite a while.

I think the bottom left (and smaller) one is used on pool picture feeds where the BBC has no control over framing.

Where the BBC has control, or the shot is suitable, I think the top left graphic is preferred, as it is larger, and complements the BBC World DOG.

(BBC News 24 also had two LIVE graphics for a while as well)

Asa, I don't know where you have got your breakfiller from, but I can tell you the weather section only ever appears for the final 30 seconds on a 1 min break.

Ummm, have to agree with Andyrew there. I already have the 2MB 2'30' filler music - and the weather music isn't part of it.

Sorry, Asa Confused

Well I downloaded the break filler from TV Home a ong time ago (the 2min 30 sec version) and it has the weather bit during the last 30 seconds :p

The weather section has never been transmitted as part of a breakfiller longer than one minute. It simply does not exist.

It would not be difficult to do a home edit on it and create the 2.30 version you mention, but certainly not genuine.

Sorry, Matt -- but the current 30s weather music does not sound the same. In the 2MB file, the first and last 30s are near enough the same (usually used for Coming Up) -- whereas the latest weather 30s has a far more interesting background percussion.

It may be down to the encoding, but I'm pretty sure it isn't it. Confused

From my experience they use the bottom LIVE dog when BBC News is simulcast in the UK or if the top LIVE dog would obstruct the picture.  The top LIVE dog is used when BBC World is broadcasting on its own.  Personally they should just use the bottom dog, it's much nicer and less obstructive.

And Pablo's right -- they had the same situation during the flags era. But the BBC World flags LIVE dog was really huge and took up the whole corner.
