I don't really think it deserves a new thread so this can also be a general BBC World if you so wish.

On the plasma screen next to the presenter on BBC World, you can clearly see the letters [ B ] [ B ] [ B ] NEWS burnt into the screen. I've only just noticed it, and at first I thought there must be a problem, but you can see it faintly on all interviews they do. You can see it more clearly on some shots than others. I just thought it was weird, and I would of thought that someone would have lowered the lumincance to stop it doing it.

The plasmas in World are the original ones used for BBC News24 when they occupied N9 3 years ago. They have 'BBC News24' burnt in.

The plasmas were switched on 24 hours a day, predominantly showing the News24 logo, so it's not surprising. They are still on for 24 hours a day, but as the World set is not used between 0030-0600, they feed B&B to them during these hours to stop them being burnt even more with 'BBC World'

Those technicians at the BBC have got the finger on the pulse havent they!

Surely if they knew what would happen they would try to do something to prevent it

Well on Brekky the other morning Sophie read out an email from someone who wanted to know how much the plasma screens behind the presenter cost. £4,500 was the price Sophie said.

£4,500 is still way out of my price range Wink

The current World plasmas were initially, as techy peep says, used for News 24 when they were in that studio.

Then when World initially moved in they were turned through 90 degrees and placed behind the presenters on 'The World Today' set - then they were moved again to the current News set.

When they were first installed the plasmas, made by Fujitsu - who make the actual screens for lots of people, cost about £8,000. They are now down to about £4,000.

Screen burn is a real problem with them though. The small screens in TVC Reception all have BBC World, and BBC News 24 logos burnt in, both the old diagonal and the new square BBC logos, in the various positions they have been placed.

is there any way to reverse burn in?

Just incase you ever wondered the Sky Digital Radio Channels are all grey and dark so that they do not cause screen burn as quickly.
This is because the same info banner etc stays on the screen permanently.

If you've seen, Sky News' plasma screens (the large ones) when they used them had moving graphics on them to prevent this.
