Well, Freeview viewers WON'T be able to choose, as they'll just get their local region for wherever they've hung their aerial.

I think the satellite reference is purely indicating that there are no rights issues, so the match WILL go out on satellite to be picked up by anyone banging in 956, 957 or whatever number the other one is.

Unless the Beeb are jolly helpful and screen them both on 701 and 702 as well? Though is this at the same time as Final Score Interactive?

Ah, yes, hadn't thought of that option, noggin.

Possible, I suppose.

itll be interesting to see how regional the coverage is. itd be rather nice to see a "bbc west" or "bbc sport west" logo in there somewhere, as i'd imagine the peeps at bbc bristol have put an awful lot of effort (and money) into pulling this whole thing together. it'd be a shame to give all the credit to bbc sport in london.

So - this is today. BBC West have been running a trail in peak time advertsing this opt all week. Don't know whether WMids and South West have been too...

It'll be interesting to see how well (or otherwise!) this opt-out goes and whether they get the aspect ratios sorted - I suspect it'll be glorious 14:9-o-vision as it's coming through Bristol...

No, it'll probably be 16:9 - they're getting in a network scanner to do the show.

It will have to be: West, and South West are both still 4:3 and the settings for their opt-outs are configured for their local news programmes

It's being originated in 16:9, as it's okay if you watch West Midlands from Birmingham.

Why the hell didn't Bristol and Plymouth take a feed from Birmingham straight through, without messing about with it, in the same way as they would if London had completely failed and Birmingham was providing the standby network feed?

was it just midlands viewers who saw steve ryder and the network pre-match for the first couple of miuste, and were then faded into the west pre-match?

so far its been very well made. animating astons, the lot. did notice a footie score pop up earlier - it was in the midlands today location strap style. do i take it footie scores are being added in birmingham - or is that just a coincidence?

Yes, the West opted cleanly at the end of Around the Grounds. They were silent for about 15 seconds, presumably because West Midlands hadn't actually opted???!

well west were mid sentence when we joined - so it must have been a midlands only problem.

its odd that bbc sport are calling bbc midlands "west midlands" in relation to today’s opt. its a name the bbc mids never apply to themselves, because although it does technically describe the region - viewers outside the west midlands county think it does not apply to them.
