Quote:
BBC Wales' move from Llandaff to Cardiff city centre will inject more than £1bn into the economy in the next 10 years, a report has said.

The report by BOP Consulting, for BBC Wales, said the corporation's decision to move Central Square in 2019 would speed up the area's redevelopment.

It said while the scheme could have gone ahead anyway, employment will start more quickly because of the move.

Final sign-off for the BBC building was agreed on Monday.

The report said the BBC's presence would not only attract creative industries, but make Central Square and the surrounding area more attractive for a range of businesses.

It will also be the catalyst for transport improvements, which will disperse the economic benefits and increase employment in the wider region, it said.

Richard Naylor, director of research at BOP Consulting said: "While Central Square could have gone ahead regardless, it's clear that without BBC Wales this level of impact would not happen.

"The vital economic difference is that BBC Wales is a catalyst for commercial investment and consumer spending, which quickly creates economic opportunities that wouldn't otherwise exist."

BBC Wales Director Rhodri Talfan Davies said the broadcaster was leaving a large, inefficient site in Llandaff and moving to a smaller, more cost-effective space because it needed to work smarter and leaner.
"But the £1.1bn benefit triggered by the move is a big boost for the economy and for the people who live here," he added.

Cardiff council leader Phil Bale said: "I can't wait to see this development take shape and to watch the benefits it brings for everyone who lives here."

Meanwhile, developer Taylor Wimpey has submitted a planning application for up to 400 homes at the broadcaster's current site in Llandaff.

And I bet there isn't a decent sized general production studio in the plans... (Unlike PQ...)

I did initially post that comment alongside the article, but when you think about it, BBC Wales has ample production facilities in the form of BBC Roath Lock.

In terms of studio space in Cardiff, there's more than enough to hire. You've got two studios at Enfys, three at Pinewood Wales in addition to the nine at Roath Lock. (There's also four at Dragon Studios, part of the "Valleywood" development about 10 miles outside Cardiff).

What does the SD/5D in the middle of the Doctor Who logo (middle picture) signify?

It's a '50' for the show's 50th anniversary.

The bit in the middle is actually '50'. The images were first released back in 2013 I think, when Doctor Who was celebrating 50 years.

Aren't most of those glorified four wallers? Could something like Crimewatch be made there?

To be honest I didn't even think of Crimewatch being studio based... I always had in mind that it was a more office-style set up like the Nicky Campbell era of Watchdog. I'd imagine there's a small space allocated for regular productions like that.

Or drive up to an office area anywhere (real or mocked up) with an OB truck ? That's the name of the game these days. Does SCD have any lower production values when it's an OB from Blackpool, than when in TC1 or Elstree ?

(BTW, off topic for this thread, but how come SCD's outing to Blackpool is the week after CiN ? How
were things arranged at Elstree this year to allow both shows ?)

They haven't shared studios since leaving TVC. Children in Need has been at the BBC Elstree studios for the last 3 years while Strictly has been on the George Lucas stage at the Elstree studios
Brekkie and Markymark gave kudos
