BBC UKTV

An interesting, if not slightly amateurish new-look for 'BBC UKTV' in Australia.

BBC UKTV is an Australian television channel owned by the BBC, launched in 1996 to showcase British programmes to audiences in Australia and New Zealand. Last week, it launched a new look, created by Ink Project.

I'm not sure if that's an entirely fair thing to say. The video shows scenes which aren't too different to ITV's new idents.

I like the other elements of press too, very neat looking.

I wonder why they continue to keep the 'UKTV' name. Surely it's a given a BBC branded channel would be UK content?

I find it interesting how all these (I presume) custom typefaces produced for broadcasters all generally look the same - the ITV font, Sky font and now the one shown here for BBC UKTV all have the same feel.

Harking back a bit to the brilliant old BBC America look, and from what we see there it all looks much better than any presentation currently on the BBC here in the UK.

I think it all looks quite nice, and could be adapted quite easily to fit onto BBC America, which currently uses the BBC One idents, doesn't it?

Seeing this fresh looking brand, does make me yearn even more for a rebrand of the UK channels

I noticed the relaunch a few days ago.

While the old package was based around BBC One with the circle motif, the new one looks quite similar IMO to ABC1's current look since some of the new idents I've seen feature balloons which are startlingly identical to ABC1's current balloon motif. (FYI, ABC1 is the flagship channel of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and is also nicknamed 'Aunty' )

That being said, I haven't seen that 45 second spot on the channel at all since the new look.

Thank god the V/Os haven't started calling the channel 'BBC UKTV'. It's a mouthful.

Final note: they need to give the Australian BBC Knowledge a new look too. It looks horrific.

I guess we can blame Fontsmith for that?

Up until this refresh, UKTV also used a similar presentation style to BBC One.
I wouldn't be surprised if BBC America got rebranded again soon too.
