I was wondering if anyone noticed that last night BBC Two used short stings in the middle of the junction. The first occurrence I saw was ahead of Never Mind The Buzzcocks at 21.00 where the opening drops of Drip Short were used before cutting to another two promotions and then Logo Flip Short as the main ident. The second occurrence I noticed was at 21.30 ahead of Broken News where Screen Clean Short was used as a sting (which consisted of the Two breathing - or rather blowing - on the screen and then scrubbing the mark off) where the ident used was Bounce Sombre Short.
I thought it was quite a nice idea and was wondering if this is going to be a permanent measure.
Random trivia, fact fans: the Screen Clean Short ident has the same 'squeaky' noise as the full ident, but the 'breath' noise was recorded separately (and quite recently)
It's a pitty they are only short versions from the idents, rather than completely different scenes, but it's a little thing that's been missing from BBC pres for a while now, and I'm glad it's back. Now, will they bring them back for BBC1?
Well it's good to see stings in some from, even if it is simply a quick clip of a part of the ident. I've never noticed any breathy sound effect on Screen Clean ident itself, which is why it stood out to me when I heard it on the sting. If it is a newly added sound, that explains it.
I'm just wondering why they've picked now to start using stings (on Network!)...maybe someone was cycling through the Xmas pres, noticed the stings that were used (for example, '2' chucks a snowball at the logo), and thought to do similar with the normal set! But, indeed, better late than never.
OT: May have already been mentioned but last night on BBC Two at around 2055, the dreaded OSN appeared during a nature documentary advertising Life in the Undergrowth on BBC One. I thought they'd ditched this idea. The design was exactly the same as before i.e. squashed BBC One Logo on a red stick.
