Good point, I think that the blocks will grow, remember most of us hated the balloon and the new logo when it first appeared.

For Monday, they should bring Firecracker out of retirement. Well, it's not like it's going to be seen again on BBC Two and is already available with the current BBC logo and in widescreen.

By widescreen, you mean cropped to 16:9 (i.e 25% hacked off). Thats what happened to ALL pre-october 1997 BBC2 idents that were carried over to the new look.

I don't think they chopped out as much as 25%. I've compared two recordings of Paint, the pre-1997 4:3 version, and the post-1997 16:9 version. On my 4:3 television, the 2 appears larger in the 4:3 version than it does on the 16:9 version viewed in letterbox format. It appears that around 15% was chopped off the top and bottom, and the edges stretched to make it 16:9. Yes, it still means the idents have been butchered, but it's not as bad as simply cropping to 16:9, in which case the 2 would just about be touching the top of the screen!

These new idents look terrible, I mean putting BBC 2 in a small purple box, looks silly to me, sorry to say it, but it's CRAP!

What a disaster, the more I hear about the new look the more I want to condem the BBC, that stupid **** ing purple box, it just looks like it's been taken from one of those TV mages and jammed on the ident, there's only 4 and they're all a horrible bright yellow colour, everyone better hate them!

I'm not too worried about the colour scheme. Remember that when the current 2s launched in 1991, it was all very much blue and grey, and if you think about it, yellow and white have been gradually introduced over the years, so it's been heading that way anyway.
