I haven't got a widescreen tv - I just set the box into 16:9 mode (seeing very thin people on my tv and normal size on my PC)
My tv card doesn't, by default, allow widescreen although http://www.virtualdub.org can usually force your card into doing it - the captured image is *a lot* better captured in widescreen than captured normal size and stretched using a video editor.

I agree there. I personally prefer watching TV in 4x3, but for captures I think 16x9 looks best. I was lucky enough to capture the Sunrise ident which was on Carlton Central today, and capped it in both 4x3 and 16x9. The 16x9 version looks much nicer.

what software do you use to capture... My WinTV software doesnt offer 16:9 format.
So i set sky in letterbox format, and i remove the black bars in photoshop or PSP

I noticed two new style BBC Two Northern Ireland trailers this evening at 20:00. It had the BBC Two logo on the purple rectangle as we've seen already over near the bottom right corner, but it also had the letters 'NI' centered underneath the BBC Two writing, and as far as I can remember, the NI lettering was smaller than the 'Two'...
The NI was inside the rectangle. I thought it actually looked quite good. They also had a trailer for Newsline... shame I didn't get a really good look.

I have to have my TV in 4:3 letterbox as the sides always get cut off! It's worse on BBC News 24 as they don't have the reports in widescreen but have the presenters in widescreen!
BTW: The 16:9 one is horrible! It makes the people look awful!

What 16:9 one? Watching people 16:9 on a widescreen set looks exactly the same as watching the same person 4:3 on a normal tv (except without the landscape either side)
My hauppauge software doesn't allow 16:9 (or custom width/height) but VirtualDub (URL on previous page) does and I started off 4:3 letterbox and cropped the bars but then found it a lot easier to just leave it 16:9 during captures and 4:3 when I'm watching television 'normally'.
Hopefully [although I cringe in saying it!
] the idents will be like the 2W ones in that there won't be a box on the idents, only on the trailers.

I've designed a mock ident in Flash - but please bear in mind the fact that I suck at Flash!!
It's based on one of the 1991 idents: blade, but with the new-style logo on it ... the way I am assuming it will be displayed from what I've heard here!

EDIT: Try right-clicking the link and selecting 'Save Target A s...' or whatever you have on your browser!
