Saw a paragraph on Daniel Eatock's website that may be of interest...

Quote:
Developed over the course of his Stanley Picker Fellowship, Eatock has been preparing an extensive series of proposals for new object-based works that each establishes a range of formal, practical or conceptual conceits connecting two otherwise independently existing objects. Whilst remaining firmly embedded in his wider hybrid practice, these sculptural object-scenarios have also been originated as part of initial developmental research for the re-branding of the national television network BBC2 .

Interesting quote from Daniel Eatock here
Quote:
We're rebranding BBC 2 - giving it a new look that doesn't include the digit two . But the idea's grown from there - none of the works you see in the Stanley Picker Gallery are likely to end up appearing on television.

Give it its own thread?

Thank. God.

I'm actually pleased they're archiving the '2' and heading in an entirely new direction. Even if it falls flat on its arse, the time to give something like this a go is now, after 10 years of diminishing returns and such a mess of a package currently in place.

I just hope the finished product isn't a sanitised compromise. Why not go all out surreal, arty-farty nonsense and see where it takes them, get back to BBC2 being set apart from everything else.

I'm talking 2Dimensions crazy. Only, you know, good.

For some reason, I could see this being a bigger balls up than the current BBC2. Fact of the matter is, new logo's in recent years (TV or not TV) tend to be a mere shadow of their predecessors.
Take More4 for an example...

Indeed. I think getting rid of the "2" is the wrong direction, no matter how much the channel needs a rebrand.

About time - they've exhausted the current 2 and something new - whether 2esque or not - is definitely required.

I'm sad to hear the end for 2 is nigh. I hope they pull Paint out of retirement for the final TX.

I disagree with the More4 example above though - it looked crap on it's own on a computer but on-screen, on an ident (where it matters) it looks fantastic.

There'd be absolutely no shame in remaking some of those famous old 2 idents in HD and adding a few new ones to the set.

I think everyone's missed the important 3 words: 'Initial development research'

That'll be research for a pitch, probably just in case it comes up to tender at some point

That is what I had assumed until the quote included in the second post, which suggests a rebrand is in motion.

Intriguingly, Eatock says the idea for the One + One project came about two years when he was working a rebrand pitch for BBC2 alongside Devilfish.

Quote:
The BBC obviously liked the idea as, having won the pitch, Eatock is now working on research projects for the channel. Watch this space…

It's worth mentioning that Eatock & devilfish also produced the Canal+ rebrand
