I dunno if it's just me, but have you noticed, that they seemed to have realised that the previous package was more flexible then the yellow era, I really hope when BBC TWO rebrands the idents will be less generic and more flexible.

It would have been really good as a ident.

The very same!

And the NI announcer sounds like Michael Selby.

Evil or Very Mad No!

Not that there is anything wrong with sounding like Michael Selby.

This is true; as I said a few days ago, BBC TWO was without a proper 'horticultural' ident anyway; I did suggest Garden, but they went one better and gave us Predator. If one of the aforementioned idents had not existed, they'd have given us the other, I'm sure of it.

BBC TWO's use of the Xmas 2000 ident into every junction during the Winter Olympics was close to overkill.

On the other hand, it now seems like Predator, which was a 'regular' ident back in its day, may have become a special ident exclusively for the Flower Show junctions; this would mean it will only get shown at 8pm each night, then withdrawn completely before the end of this week, which to me isn't enough - and will subsequently again leave a 'gap' in terms of a gardening-suited ident once it has disappeared.

I would like it if they treated it as a standard ident for the duration of the event at least, but doesn't seem too likely - it all depends whether we see it again between now and 20:00.

I get the hint, thanks for spicing up the announcement. Wink

There's still Hampton Court and Tatton Park to come. At least it should turn up for those.

All the same, it's always the box in the corner of the screen that ruins it for me. It squeezes the actual BBC logo into miniscule proportions. I prefer it when it was in the centre and on a single line.

Still, nice to see the return of some old friends! Do you think if there was a rebrand then they would revert to a centralised logo? I think it would be so much easier on the eye, and cost-effective too.

When's the rebrand? Anybody have a rough idea?

Just wondering why a centralised logo is any more cost-effective than one placed to the left or right of frame?

In fact the opposite is true - at least for the Nations - as they can visually re-brand a network trail at the touch of a button. Prior to the 'box' logos it was a case of getting a separate clean copy of the trail, as the 'un-boxed' logos couldn't be superimposed on each other.

Thanks for the upload and I have to say I loved that anno! We need more ident annos like that!
On my earlier point about the lack of soundtrack I am now aware that there is one, I just couldn't hear it initially as it isn't as prominent as the others.
I think that this ident should be used for gardening programmes of any description, including The Flying Gardener, as well as a special treat ahead of Ceefax. Though a fairly long showing of Invisible Walls this morning was not disappointing.

It would be cost-effective because they wouldn't have to worry about trying to create a new logo - they can simply revert to the old one which is already on the old idents. Also, I think i preferred the central logo, because it was always smaller on trails and bigger on idents, so you could tell when a programme was about to start. For the casual viewer, it's perhaps more difficult to tell with the box being identical on both.

In response to some earlier posts; I feel the current boxed logo positioned at the right hand side does spoil the ident in a way the centred striped logo never did.

It just looks untidy to me, it always has done, particularly on idents where the 2 is stationary in the middle of the screen, where I sort of want the logo to 'budge over' to align itself with the numeral. It doesn't help that they stuck the logo in a bright purple box; it would look much more fitting if they did away with it.

Whenever the rebrand (that we have zilch information on) happens, whoever deals with it: you can change the boxed logo, get rid of the one-colour-for-all-idents approach, but for goodness sake, don't drop the legendary '2'. It's been in service for over 15 years, but that doesn't mean it needs to be put down.

Instead, they should take a look at the lot of idents from the bunch they've been delving into recently; and draw inspiration from them. Some of the current set are good, but being so personality-focused now, they hardly take your breath away! Whereas in the early days right up until 2001, it seems the emphasis was on a greater visual and aural impact, filming a real '2' - whether it be metallic, wooden, whatever - and subjecting to various elements and conditions, some of which required complex or awkward devices to achieve the desired effect (remember "How Do They Do That?" in Feb '95?). As far as CG may have come since those days, I think it lacks the 'edge' of a real live action '2', which I'd like to see become abundant again in the regular set, in future.

Yes, again I agree with you on all that you've said. Yet seeing as the 1991-2001 batch were extremely popular (and still are), would it not be cheaper and more pleasing - not just for us fans but for the general viewer - to simply re-instate the old idents with the 1997 logo look? Everyone's a winner surely?
