Had an interesting conversation today with the BBC Northern Ireland continuity team, about the showing of the 1991-2001 idents during Afternoon Classics.

I'm told that, as and when they have time, more from the 1991-2001 era will continue to be shown during AC. They have put two new ones on their server today, which are available to use.

They have pretty much all the post-1997 ones, but said they cannot simply pull new ones straight out and play them. Before a new one can be put on their server and made available to show, they have to find out, and correctly log, the music details for them, as some of them were originally logged in as something completely different, apparently.

Regarding their use of the BBC italic logo on some of them, I'm told it is just a bit of artistic license.

Problem is once Allo, Allo! has finished (Next Wednesday) there's only Cagney and Lacey left in the Afternoon Classics. The rest of the schedule (Planet Earth, Great British Bake Off both replace Allo Allo) aren't Afternoon Classics Sad. Bit irrated to see that BBC Two are just relying on old favourites like Cash in the Attic and Instant Resturant again. Mad

Although occasionally with periods of fewer programmes in the slot, and with temporary cessations altogether, they told me that the Afternoon Classics slot is planned to continue.

I asked them about the showing of the couple of classic idents shown outside of the AC slot (BBC2 40th anniversary ident, before British Isles: A Natural History on March 11, and Steam last Thursday, before Vintage Antiques Roadshow) and they said this would not normally happen. I'll still keep an eye on the adjacent junctions, though, just in case Smile

Edit: It still does happen, though - Swan shown before Vintage Antiques Roadshow, today, so I'll definitely keep a close eye!

The other new one now on their server not shown today. This is the other one they tell me is now available to show, for anyone who is eager to know:

Wow that really shows how it was a CGI model. You wouldn't have thought so from watching VHS copies all these years.
