Hopefully BBC2 NI take the opportunity to give the 1991 Christmas ident another outing.
Or maybe even the 1993 ident with the high standrad BBC NI has been setting recently.
Yes. 1993 would be good to see again.

Just as an aside, Newsnight, last night, ended with a somewhat gimmicky set of 'calamities', due to it being Friday the 13th, e.g. a graphic of a heavy weight dropping onto the studio floor, another graphic showing part of the studio floor catching fire, then Emily Maitlis suddenly looking up to the ceiling as if something is about to happen above her, before a cut to the BBC HD 1080 line testcard for a few seconds.
Definitely CGI. But from his comment on Twitter I don't think it's one of Dave Jeffery's recreations.

I'd say it is - unless there were different 'takes' of it, filmed from slightly different positions.
Looking closely between the ident shown today, and the three different copies of it on TV ark, there is at least one subtle difference. The '2' appears, to me, to be slightly higher up on the pink bauble on today's airing, and if you look at the bottom part of the 'S' (the final letter of the rotating 'Christmas'), this 'S' seems to rotate in front of the '2' at a height just above the very bottom of the '2' as it passes, whereas the copies on TV ark show the 'S'' at a lower height than the very bottom of the '2', as it passes.

The TV Room also shows the different camera angles on the originals. To me, the tinsel and bauble look real with the ribbon added in afterwards.

I can't see any uploaded still or video clip of this ident, in The TV Room, which has exactly the same camera position as today's airing. As far as I can see there are no video clips of this ident in The TV Room, and all the stills relating to this ident, including the third still of 'BBC Two ident [3]' (see link below), where the description says 'Altered camera positioning for this outing of the symbol' still shows the bottom of the 'S', in Christmas, at a lower height than the very bottom of the '2' (unlike today's airing). Do correct me if I've overlooked anything.
The main difference between this and the original footage is that the shadow cast by the ribbon is very well defined on the original footage on TV Ark, but very diffused and subtle on the modern recreation.
