Well they're different to what we've been used to for the past five years or so. I think they are alright but I anticipate they will get much better after they've been aired a while along with the rest. The big difference to me is that I've been used to a personality Two, yet now it's going back to the 90s where the number two is a symbol.
I'm a little disappointed with the soundtrack as I think they could have been more powerful, with a distinct theme at the start. I feel the visuals could be a little better but they aren't too bad. The main problem though is that box. I thought that it would be alright with a box on but it's awful, sticking out like a sore thumb on the ident and looks overall wrong.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of the idents and in action, though they aren't as impressive as I'd hoped.

No if they wanted to be truely distinctive they wouldn't have any idents at all!

Perhaps they will ditch the box; they kept the idents but changed the logo in the 1997 rebrand. They might of thought that the new style of logo is still a minority, and therefore the box is more appropriate for the present. I hope that they will get rid of it anyway.

Yes; what was the instrument used throughout nearly all of the 90's 2's? It was the sound that was used exclusively in Neon Sign and Car but I don't think anyone has ever identified it - any takers?

Most definitely synthesized and has a slight bell-like quality to it.
If only I knew the specific name; it's slightly annoying trying to find out these sorts of things when you have nothing to go on, unless theres an app that can identify an instrument from an audio sample, which I doubt!

No - as I said before from the vids so far at least I'm hugely disapointed!
I don't know what people like about "Zoetrope" - there may be a bit of animation at the beginning but the bulk of the ident is a black screen with action playing out in a 2 cut out.
I'm trying to reserve judgement till I've seen more - hopefully these are the weaker of the set!
P.S. Not quite sure how it would work in idents, but considering the theme is using the 2 as a window I do think they possibly could have got away with a BBC 1 style logo, but using the "2" as the centre piece rather than "two" as people have suggested before.
I can certainly imagine it working for the trailers - a bit more difficult with the actual idents but I think if they began with the 2 in the shot (like the tent door) then zoomed into the scene behind it and the animated "BBC 2" then appeared it might have worked.
