BBC Two: new idents from Sunday 18 February

The logo box looks so out of place, it almost ruins them. They would work perfectly well as idents without the box at all! The "two" on in Gill just looks like someone couldn't find the right font and bunged any old thing in.

That said I do like the idents, VERY different from what we have no, but a step in the wrong direction IMO. The current idents, and their predecessors used the 2 as a character, a person, with things happening to it etc., even more so with the current ones... These new ones are a bit to abstract for my liking, the fact the bottom of the two and the box don't line up looks awful IMO. Music is ok, kinda something or nothing, bad move not to include a signature theme, epically as the current one was very strong...

Not the Carling ad that's for sure..

I quite like the music - no signature theme (like the C4 idents where it don't matter where the anouncer comes in) and no climax like the BBC1 one's which dictates where the anouncers should come in (but they always get it wrong)

I love how abstract they feel, like they exist in a non-defined space, in their own power.

Zeotrobe reminds me of the bext of the 1991-2001 greats like Diary, and Optic, especially the music.

The Box is still bad, I can only hope it has a good use in the On Screen Pres and trailers.

You are correct. Those are the variations on the Tent ident 'theme' as they call it.
Go back a page and you will see a cap of the variation on the Mirror ident theme too.

In fact there are three tent idents - a pop festival, beach and polar landscape.

I'm not too keen on what I've seen so far. I prefer the 2 to have a personality rather than just be an object in a scene.

If someone knocked one of these up and put it on YouTube as a mock you would all go mad!

They are not value for money.

I'll get the likes of Gav & Lukey to come with me to the Maldives for a week (I wish) with bits of the C4 logo (as long as they fit in one suitcase each - owing to new baggage allowances) and drift about in the ocean for days until it forms a 4 logo - then we'll sell it to C4 for about £100,000. It wouldn't make a great ldent but some idiot could come up with a marketing blub that you would fall for and say you like! Such as:

"..the unique quality of the waves demontrates the novel and new-edge culture C4 is trying to display. It's unpredicatbility in creating and exploring new programme genres and ideas is brought forward into our ident...."

See, I can write marketing drivel in 15 seconds

Watching them a second time round, I was just thinking the same thing. They feel quite empty in comparison to the current ones, where as you have said, the 2 has a personality.
