The ironic thing is when the BBC spend thousands on lavish promos such as the talking heads or the cliffhanger one it's organisations like MediaWatch which get them banned!

Not normally one to defend Mediawatch, but it wasn't them who got the flying heads trail withdrawn (not banned, there is a diffrence)... it was all the people who were freaked out by it that persuaded the beeb to stop showing it.

I can see why, it wasn't an easy watch

Minutes ago, a treat on BBC TWO NI:

An appearance of the Fish Menu and rundown of Thursday's night line-up, and a goodnight from Belfast.

Then switch to the matching ident which was played out full - and clean.

Great stuff BBC NI! Very Happy

Good to see they're making an effort there... after all in a few days it'll be time to "kiss this fish goodbye"*.

* Note the rather poor pun on the Del Amitri song

Talking of kissing fish goodbye, I'm sure there was a version of Fish where one of the fish DID kiss the 2... or did I dream it? If I'm not dreaming, has anybody got a copy of it as I haven't seen it in a while!

These new idents do look stunning and definitely a step in the right direction. It looks to me that they are going back to the 90s style Twos and bringing them up to date, with an addition of the box from the current set. The use of the deep aqua (teal) again really does suggest that the idents will be an adaptation of those from the 90s.
From this I suspect that each ident's soundtrack will be different and quite atmospheric like those in the 90s, but I think there will be a signature theme tune based on the current one.
I can't wait to see these in action as I'm sure they will be even better on screen than the images do.

As for the earlier comments on the proportions, I found it quite noticable and though arguably it doesn't make much difference, it does look wrong when the Two is top heavy like on Seascape. I suppose it adds to the natural look though it could have been made less noticable.

I've got a feeling we may get a good ending of the idents as seen as they've been on our screens for so long and are quite a recognisable symbol. When you add to this that the final junction will be into Ceefax then it's got all the makings of a good send off - definitely a full ident or hopefully a montage.

Saying that we're already getting full idents. As Paul Clark mentioned earlier on in the thread we've had Fish in full on NI and last night on network before Never Mind The Buzzcocks there was a full Formation Short. I'm hoping there will be a few more full playouts, like on Bounce or Drum for example.

Yes, but that jingle we have at the moment has been around longer than you think. If you listen to the soundtrack of Optics, you'll hear a jingle at the beginning which sounds almost exactly the same as the current one. That continues as a riff throughout the track.

And there seems to be the constant use of a low "C" note throughout the 91-01 idents, which is also the first note and an undertone of the current soundtracks. So I wouldn't be surprised if the current jingle somehow survived.

Quite a nice article on the new idents from The Stage. It confirms that there will be 3 versions of tent:
The Stage posted:
Tent has a 2-shaped door in a tent. As it is unzipped, variants of the ident will show a beach, a polar landscape or a pop festival.

So there's another 2 idents on top of the original 7. The rest just long and short variants methinks.
EDIT: Heres another good one from The Stage again. Hilarious Laughing

No one seems to have mentioned yet but from the stills at least the "Cappuccino" appears to be the odd one out and doesn't seem to fit the theme - to me at least.

Given the box is staying, can we assume BBC Two Northern Ireland will remain "BBC TWO NI" visually on-air?

Indeed, a rather pleasant surprise. The way it should be done every night.

Well The Duck is in a pleasant mood tonight.

The hotel I was going to be staying at has been closed due to a virus going around.

So although a tad disappointed the upside is I will now be able to see the new idents as they launch Very Happy

ROLL ON SUNDAY!
