I actually like this. Like The TV Room said the 2 has a very unique and distinctive shape that makes it well known and an excellent symbol for a television channel. I have noticed a distortion with the planks next to the 2 but that's OK as we're discussing BBC2 idents, not playing spot the difference.
These 2's are very reminiscent of the interstitial 2's that you'd get between programmes in the 90's like the yellow jelly 2 or the King Kong one. I thought they'd be good as idents noyt just stings so I'm glad that BBC2 are going this route. Also it's good to see them breakaway from the yellow and computer gnerated 2's. Far too limiting.
Seems no-one has mentioned it yet (so it might just be me nitpicking), but it looks like the '2' has changed its shape across these idents...
Compared to the current figure, Mirror and Tent appear to have a 2 where the tip is curved downwards much steeper, and the Sunroof and Seascape 2's looks too thin. The one in Chase looks about the right shape though.
So on the idents at least, they don't seem to have kept the 2's proportions consistent, and I do find that rather odd; it makes more sense to keep it the same throughout, surely?
Anyways, will reserve complete judgment until I've seen and heard them in action.
Mirror looks like the 2's at an angle (i.e., it's not at right angles to the camera, but the camera's a bit down and to the right). The others - especally Seascape & Tent - are more a product of material and theme: Seascape's 2 is meant to be slightly worn after quite some time eroding, and there's no real way that isn't "cheating" to get a Perfect 2 in tenting material.
And I think the "14 idents" is just a length thing - i.e., Mirror Long, Mirror Short, Tent Long, etc...
The box is perhaps the biggest let down of this set but to be honest it's a small imperfection on what looks like a great ident set from the stills.
Also it doesn't limit what can be done when they do new additions to the set or a theme night.
Although I can see the comparisons to Channel 4's current idents these are a bit different. The 2 is set into a surrounding with the "window" (as the press release puts it) showing a "different view". The 2 also seems to stay static in the still's shown with everything else surrounding it in motion.
The 2 is also set in a more realistic situation where as the 4's are illusions.
BBC Two may adopt a different logo at the bottom. BBC One lost its box, BBC News 24 and BBC World lost there boxes. BBC Two should drop the box and should BBC Three and Four

Have you followed this thread at all? Have you read the press release? 'The BBC TWO logo is now placed in a 'deep aqua'

Personally I think if the box is the worst thing about this new set then we have no worries, it looks as if alot of effort has gone into these & they won't date quickly either.
We may even have a scenario like in 1997, when these idents are five years old & they refresh the BBC logo or the caption itself they may carry the best ones over & mix them in with the new set. This of course is a long way off.
