BBC Two: new idents from Sunday 18 February

Yep, the BBC does like to be ambiguous about what's going to happen in future programmes, ident sets etc. For example, the BBC press release for the 2006 Doctor Who season said that the 'Doctor will battle... [assorted monsters go here] ...and maybe even a Dalek'. However, Russell T Davies vehemently denied the Daleks would make an appearance. But guess who made an appearance at the end of Episode 12? Four Daleks (including a Dalek Supreme), and countless more inside a dimensionally transcendental dome.

At least we have concrete evidence the 2 is staying.

A very nice montage there, although I do fear that the replacement will be a lot worse and feature to many people!

I think that the new Idents will be landmarks round the UK and at the end have the number 2 form with the BBC Two logo. But thats just my thoughts. I hope not. I want to keep the iconic 2.

Seeing as though AMV BBDO designed the present website do you think we may see something similar on screen? the flapping '2's look nice but clever and imaginative scenarios would be needed so they wouldnt look samey and boring.

I dont think it was used as an ident but i think it was used as sting during (obviously) snooker programming during the 91-01 era.

Must say there's a few there I don't recognise, like the ones near the beginning where the 1991 BBC2 logo pops up in the corner, never seen them before. Nice montage though.

BBC Two's Wikipedia article mentions that the "2" remains.. and so does the box logo.

I doubt the box will remain, I shouldnt trust wikipedia on this (or most things)

That's a wonderful montage on the BBC TWO site, a really varied mixture of stings and idents; none from the present set but I have no qualms about that.

1991 was the start of the '2' (and a golden era) after all, and it's nice to especially see picks from Christmas pres in the 90's among the montage -- concepts were rich and diverse back then with so many sequences through the years, seemingly hardly limited to any criteria or colour scheme as time went on; looking at that, I think the present yellow scheme has been far too restrictive in comparison.

With the site giving old idents this coverage ahead of the rebrand, it's almost as if they are giving the '2' a send-off, like its coming to an end. But of course, it isn't going - it's staying with us. Still a huge question mark over what the idea(s) involved are going to be like though, it would seem...

As for the announced date...I should at least have some reason to celebrate on the day of the rebrand -- Feb 18th is my birthday!

those 91-01 idents get me every time, something about the music and the way there put together. dont think they have ever been beaten for me. just something magical about them. they instantly brand the chanel without need for colour themes or gimicks. really hope the new set is something comparable. although anything is better than the current set.

I liked the ones which kept the teal colour consistantly throughout, but the random styled stings were good.

BRING BACK STINGS TO BBC ONE AND TWO!!!
