I didn't think the Balloons got a montage, at least not on Network. IIRC, they just ended with the Docklands ident. I've got a feeling that Northern Ireland possibly did have a montage though.

Spot on, they did a fantastic montage, it was on The TV Room before the revamp, although I'm not certain it's there. In Wales the Balloon got an extended ident and in England and Scotland there was naff all. I remember show shít that was at the time, having to stay up until 2.30am and not even a mention whatsoever.

Well, despite the fact that they didn't quite match up to what came before them, I will be sad to see the current set go. Over its period, I think they did develop a charm of their own. I think that if a few more were made, and the colour was changed, they would have done a lot better. There were some good ones in the set, Invisible walls and Fire being personal favorites of mine. Lets hope that the new set can better the current set.

Hopefully, but where do we go from here, do we go back to the previous style, do it channel 4 style or something completely different?

Only time can tell. Which reminds me, I must write another Email to the BBC and ask for any updates.

Looks familiar!

Agreed with the previous poster's comments about Invisible Walls and Fire, both very nice idents indeed.

I've been seeing a lot more of Drum lately, which as far as Network goes seems to have been previously underused a bit.

Sticky Label (short) is still a bit too prevalent for my liking, but then I do believe it's the default. Which is odd, as Bounce has always struck me as the natural choice: a neutral ident, which the fault caption is based on, as was the Network still menu - plus a still of it (opaque logo) seems to always be ready to cut to, which I have seen in various instances.

Bounce seems as though it could be looped on screen for a long time, without it looking the same, but Sticky Label couldn't. That's why I agree that its a strange choice for a default ident over the others.

And I don't know why it happened but I've just found Invisible Walls was played clean again this morning, 15 sec worth before Britain's Best Buildings. The following ident had continuity back as usual - Dean Lydiate announcing into The Daily Politics.

How solid are the rumours of what the new idents are going to be like?

Did anyone watching Network get an odd junction before the Bowls just now?

I flicked over to NI, and the Self-Portrait (Long) Ident played almost entirely without announcer, which came in during the last few seconds. The whole thing overran after the anno had finished - must have been at least 8 seconds of the frozen end frame of the ident plus silence.

Yes, I saw the long version of Sticky Label played out on network twice last night, and it was quite long before the continuity drivel started.

Shame I missed it! I'd have liked to have seen that. Perhaps it was because the bowls OB wasn't ready and they had to lengthen the only thing they could - the ident into it. I remember a similar thing happening sometime last year before Breakfast where BBC One opted out of N24 too early so we ended up with Skateboarders clean for ten seconds then black with the pre-recorded anno.

Yes I was most surprised to see Sticky Label Long as well last night ahead of Room 101. It's not often we see that one.
I was equally surprised to see Remote Long for Newsnight. It's hardly the most newsy ident they have.
