The BBC Four presspack is from last year, as this year's hasn't been released yet.

apologies. that one mustve slipped through the net Embarassed! just saw winter/spring 2006 and thought it must meant this year. it will be interesting to see what BBC4's presspack looks like when it is released but so far it looks like we're waving goodbye to boxes and the new logos are being kept under cover-if this is true surely BBC4's current idents will be adapted in some way as theyre quite new. i remember that sum1 mentioned earlier in the thread of having a BBC one style logo replacing BBC4's black box on the middle of the idents, which, IMO, would look pretty good-but this is all pure speculation remember

BBC2 seem to be playing the long versions of their idents. today i saw long versions of fish, remote, fire and the seldom seen long version of screen clean. and the purple aston now next and later menu is now also making a regular appearance. coincidence or are BBC2 giving the yellow idents one last horrah before the rebrand? if so it looks like the rebrand could be occuring v. soon

I was of the opinion that the long versions of all those idents, especially Fire, could be seen often.

In fact I only saw a *short* version of Fire recently in Scotland - must be a similar situation to the short Drum Ident, where the Network don't use it but the Nations do.

i could be reading in to it a bit too much then Mr. Green but remote and screen clean are rarely aired as long versions

Have to say, I noticed the CAs are waiting longer than usual before they start speaking this evening. I highly doubt a relaunch is imminent though. It's likely there'll be press coverage a couple of weeks beforehand.

They showed the Big Read (lots of 2s reading books) one before Newsnight here. Haven't seen that one for at least a couple of years...

I can see why you say that, as I've not seen it used before Newsnight before that point, and often not in that sort of timeslot generally.

However, far from being absent for years, it has been still used recently on occasion; some examples would be relevant Schools programming, and also things like What The Papers Say. I think it does make sense to use it before Newsnight, and should perhaps be used more in that junction.

i quite like that ident. probably the most humorous from the current pack. i just wish these idents hadnt all been on a yellow background. it was sensible to keep the '2' white as it is the channels main symbol (along with the purple box) but surely they couldve used different backgrounds. IMO this wouldve stopped them looking so tired so quickly.

I agree. I think the robotic 2 would do quite well in a people ident, in different environments and perhaps interacting with people. But no, it was imprisoned in a yellow world, and has stayed so for five plus years. What has the 2 done to deserve this?

I was quite surprised seeing Big Read Long before Newsnight the other day though that was the only junction I saw (looks like I missed quite a good Network pres day).
I didn't realise there was a short version of Fire but isn't there one of Self Portrait that's rarely seen (like Drum Short)?

Actually there are three versions of Self Portrait, all have been used on BBC TWO Northern Ireland. Long, medium and short.

i presume medium starts with the '2' already holding the paint brush and short starts with the '2' just finishing its masterpiece? i think ive seen medium (if my presumptions are correct) once in England before a few years back
