Actually, the trend is now usually, corporate logo, or inclusion of masterbrand logo, and individual looks for the channels!

In a multi-channel world, each needs to stand out.

Except for Sky 1, 2 & 3 of course, doesn't their presentation all look rather simular?

I suppose we'll just have to wait & see, supposedly not long now?

If you look at the rest of Sky though - each channel "brand" has its own unique identity - i.e. Sky News has a very different logo and look from Sky Movies and Sky Sports.

Very true although the onc, tuo & thrcc logos still look rubbish

Yeah - the Beeb started having second thoughts about the rigid channel-matching when BBC3 launched without a Gill Sans BBC THREE in the box, and they've steadily moved away from identikit captions ever since - since the last relaunch, the font used for the "one" and other captions on BBC1 is actually called "BBC One". I wonder if the "WINTER/SPRING ON BBC TWO" in that bit is in the new "BBC Two" font...

TBH i dont think this will be part of the new pres. surely there would have to be a press release first. its probably just a teaser or a stop-gap before the real new pres launches. only time well tell but it is fun to speculate Smile

What is your problem with custom fonts Simon?

I suspect that there will be some common look between brands. The new BBC2 endboards will probably be similar to the BBC1 endboard, except a different colour and a different animation. And in the press release, BBC2 was spelt "BBC Two" instead of the more corporate "BBC TWO". This might be an indication of a logo like

[b)[b)[c) Two

or perhaps

[b)[b)[c) two

which would be reasonably inline with BBC1 branding but enough to be "different".

I think the only reason BBC1 is still using the red box is to keep a consistent look while all the channels relaunch.

I would have thought that was obvious. We can't bloomin' get them! And by having these fonts made, TV bosses are taking Pres away from the people who appreciate it the most.

I presume this is confirmation there is a new BBC2 font...

Yes but there's also the case that these companies don't want people to get hold of them for that reason or for at least so as to prevent "hoaxing" or "faking" of the logo.

London Underground / British Rail are the same except you can buy theirs for a (high) price ( I believe the London Underground one is anything between £24.99-£39.99 to buy)

Why should it be obvious?

It doesn't take them away from anyone, they are made to be seen; not photoshopped!

And surely for hardcore pres fans, new fonts are just part of the appeal?

Damned inconsiderate of them to make distinctive bespoke logos as well. Why oh why oh why can't they use easy to obtain clip-art or Zapf Dingbats so we can have our fun?
