BBC Two: new idents from Sunday 18 February

it would be a shame to see the last terrestrial channel drop CGI in favour of live action, but as long as they were better than the current set i would happily welcome them.

Saw a very brief BBC TWO NI Menu earlier (Next / Then / Later) with simply white text which was faded in and overlayed on the Drip Short Ident. I imagine this has been around for a while and just not used too often?

Although it doesn't work particularly well, what with being white text on a white '2' and yellow background, and could easily be mistaken for a mock, I'd think.

Just noticed a trailer before QI on TWO for arsenal v chelsea. Five Live logo was in the bottom left corner throughout rather than switching between the TWO box and the Five Live logo. At the end was simply a MOTD2 sunday 10.00 BBC TWO in plain text. as i am no fan of the boxes i thought it looked better.

Just seen a 'Next' board between the snooker and rugby, it was a light purple background with a shadow of a large 2 on the right. The text was in the style of the new trailer astons with the two purple vertical lines at the end. Purple box was in the usual place bottom right.

So it's being used in all Nations...Seems bizarre how these new designs to fit with the trail astons are surfacing now, when it's all going to be relaunched soon anyway; it doesn't make sense to me, to carry existing styles over. Maybe this is a bunch of stuff that was meant to coincide with new aston, but was never used until now? Who knows...

Switching the yellow for purple! Blackcurrant flavour chews and Ribena sprang to mind...

They may be trying to use less of the yellow 2 so when the change does come (aka stupidly subtle 2's) people dont mind/notice as much.

A fault has occurred now; and I don't think I'm getting any sound...

EDIT: Well, now we are back, but I see Bill Oddie has replaced the Snooker...

Well, it's not as if the new trailer time-graphics have been consistantly used - the unbackgrounded white/black has still turned up almost as frequently.

Whole-screen yellow was always revolting, and combined with the purple Box didn't help. All-purple is far less... garish.

Am I the only one who can see a 2 nearly falling on the surface like in the "Powder" ident in that?

Looks a million times better than the putrid combination of the yellow background and the purple box. Shame its only appeared now though

Well with the news that BBC1's festive idents are launching on Sat 16th (see BBC1 Christmas thread) is their any news from TWO? i take it their idents will be launching on saturday too, so is last years glittery '2' making a comeback? news would be appreciated

Well some interesting points regarding the Winter 2007 press pack PDF file, released today...

No Purple or Purple Box Logo, actually no Logo at all.
On each page, the images are covered by part of the BBC Two '2'.

There are brown, orange, green, teal, red and black colours used, so perhaps that is a hint at a new colour scheme for the new look.


Perhaps its reading too much into it, but its fun to speculate.
