i hope they dont ditch the numerical '2'. 4's managed to keep its '4' since launch and look at wot their turning out now. Remember the last set of idents which had the
word
TWO as the focal point...
The main problem with those 1990s "TWO" idents for BBC2 was (A) no jingle/music, just utter silence; (B) Too much bare uninterrupted white-ness as background.
Just because something isn't a "2" doesn't automatically mean it'll be that bland, though.
I hope that BBC Four sticks with the current 4-quarters split-screen, as they've not had it for all that long, and it's so good. Just replace the centralised black box with a

four
instead. Which means we'll be able to see the centre where the four seams meet, for the first time! And that there won't be all that "sliding around" at the start and end of trailers.
I agree. Maybe this change will happen when BBC TWO launches its new look?
Noticed how they have a pic of the pedigree comedy '2' rather than a yellow one. An admission that yellow ones arent as good? Does any1 think that if each of the yellow idents had been on different backgrounds they would have been better? I think invisible walls would have worked well with a background of sky and grass with the 2's going through invisible walls.
I'll really miss the character 2 idents - they're my favourite idents of any channel at the moment.
Perhaps it's just me, but the idents continue to make me laugh - it's always hard to make computer animation funny, and these achieve it (for me) without even a mouth or pair of eyes to animate. The annoyance in the character in Remote Control, the confusion in Drip, and the sheer wonderful madness in Morris Dance and at the end of Big Read are simply delightful.
They don't even feel dated to me - the BBC One dancers did, and needing changing - I'm still enjoying seeing these 2s though.
BBC Two has a history of some splendid idents sets - let's hope they keep up the reputation.
The current top item would suggest last years xmas ident again
Someone get in and steal the master tape then!
The fact that last year's was a good ident is not in question. But it is another year so we should have a new festive look. We did in 1990, less than two months before both channels relaunched.

Then they'd just use the originals instead. And if you stole them there'd be no festive idents.
As you know Simon, I'm strongly against the recycling of Christmas idents. There was no excuse in 2003 for BBC1 and in 2004 for BBC2, but this year, I can understand why they're not going to spend money on a new ident when they've just paid for a brand new set of idents.
But as I mentioned earlier, a similar situation arose in 1990. You could argue that year's Christmas idents were less worth the bother, since - imminent relaunch aside - they were on screen for just two full days and one evening compared to almost two weeks in recent years.
And we don't know how early in 2007 the new look will be on air.
I really hope they don't get rid of the "2". There is no need at all, surely they could have the |B||B||C| two logo at the bottom, why must every channel be identical in layout
To axe the '2' would show ignorance in the part it played in transforming the channel's image back in 1991, and how popular it was (and still is).
I think a lot more people are likely to remember the likes of Paint or Dog than anything that came before, or on any other channel for that matter. Keep the 2's but give them a makeover; ideally something that will really rival Channel 4.
Remember Lambie-Nairn are off the case, yet (somewhat thankfully) Red Bee are not responsible for the new look. I don't know what AMV are like when it comes to designing channel identity, but they've got a lot to live up to and IMO keeping the 2 is starting off on the right foot.
I think it would be a step in the wrong direction if they got rid of the numerical 2 as it has been quite a successful symbol over the past years. The thing I will miss the most out of the current idents is the theme music as I think it is of a high quality, sounds impressive (especially the likes of Bounce Sombre and Invisible Walls) and quite catchy as well. It is in fact the theme music which lets last year's Christmas idents down IMO.
What I'd like to see this year for Christmas is the reuse of the other yellow Christmas idents (Christmas Tree, Snowman, Ice Cube) as this will give lots of variety as opposed to three variations of the same ident, which I get sick to death with, especially when they start so early.
