Used before Journeys into the Ring of Fire

If it was meant to be relevant to the programme, then that's some odd looking fire! Laughing I don't understand the current logic behind these choices, which probably means there is none.

Maybe it's an admission that the yellow idents are dire?

I wonder if we'll see a few balloon idents on BBC1 soon? Laughing

I'd just hope that they bring in a whole new set of 2's and just mix them up with a few older ones. It's just so weird how those original 2's seem so timeless and fresh even now whereas the Root 2's have become quite stale. Well they have to me anyway.

It is their variety in visuals and sound, that makes the previous lot seem timeless; and with the current yellow lot being considerably more samey (which has now led to them becoming stale), they show just how good the other ones were and still are.

Thanks BBC2, I enjoyed rushing home to catch the special ident before "Home", only for you to use Sticky Label!

Has anyone got video of last Tuesday's ident?

Ah Simon, you should've been watching Northern Ireland!

The reoccurrance of both Predator and the snowy 2 show just how easily the old 91-01 2's can be re-designed with the purple box - without them suffering design wise. To be honest no-one, besides the daily Mail, a few people on here and the anally retentive microcosmic world of TV presentation would squawk much about them coming back, and I'm sure the viewing public would like to see them back too.

Yes, but I still don't like the boxes and I can't see why they should stay either. If you're going to bring them back, why not just use the centred, clear, larger logos? The whole issue of them being in one corner of the screen was broken with BBC Four, so perhaps now is the time to bring back consistency.

Which one did they show then?

If they lost the boxes some of the new 2's would be redundant as they use the box as a prop in the idents.

Well, I think it was meant as ditching the boxes for the rebrand, not actually getting rid of them on the current lot.

I'm guessing it was the same ident as was used on the original showing of the 2nd episode? It had a bloke reading a paper and a flourescent blue 2 sign in the background; the whole area lit with blue. I think the image of this should still be viewable on one of the previous pages.

Network not showing it on the repeat is odd; as when the previous episode was reshown, they used the accompanying ident and sting with it.

Well done, full points!

Also, we didn't use "Frosty", as it now appears to be known as (to you and me "Christmas/Olympic"), instead Fire Long was used.

Bit of a mess-up on BBC TWO earlier going into N24.

Catching a bit of it as I turned over; a seemingly pre-recorded anno on BBC TWO went out too early over the top of a BBC FOUR trail, then another golf trail before leaving the following ident (Bounce) with no voiceover. Then over to N24, and after the sting a few seconds of black before the picture appeared. Didn't know what was happening at first, since the whole lot was running later than I had expected! Laughing

Arrow Download (3.44 Mb)
- NB: Golf trail has been cut down to save time.

Was most continuity of the night pre-recorded? As earlier, instead of the audio fading up and down smoothly for the annos, it would 'cut' rather awkwardly from full volume to quieter, and vice versa, which was odd.

I would have thought recorded continuity in general (excluding LZ) was rare, but I've never been entirely sure how often it is done.

The amount of recorded continuity, and its increasing use, is disturbing. Especially now these cock-ups are becoming more common.

Pre-recorded continuity is much more common on network BBC 1 and especially BBC 2 than you might think. Late night BBC 1 (after midnight-ish) the Sign Zone and the Learning Zone are pre-recorded. Around the Schools and afternoon programmes on both 1 and 2 there would often be a mix of live and pre-recorded annos (sometimes within the same junction). A few primetime annos would be pre-records too, to allow for meal breaks, etc.

People willing to kill innocent people in the name of religion is disturbing. The growing number of obese children is disturbing. Recorded continuity is not. Get a sense of perspective on things.
