They'd have had access to the London servers or VTs so could go straight to the server source, had they not already joined it at the top of the programme. AFAIK, BBC TWO NI Analogue did just that at the start of Coupling so no viewer was any the wiser!

I saw the breakdown after Never Mind the Buzzcocks.... BBC Two Scotland were on an apology for quite a lot longer before they re-joined.

Yeah - it was a bit wierd. I thought it was a Scotland only problem at first as we never got the 'flickering' between caption and Coupling. The caption simply stayed on screen from the end of the promo until quite far into the show. The announcer also said that "The programme has already started and we are joining it a little way in. You should be able to catch up." or something very similar.

I know that the running server was available, and the Nations can now select BBC Two "programmes only" on the switchable clean feed line so they may already have had the appropriate source selected. BBC Two Wales (analogue) also joined Coupling before BBC Two Network, so I imagine that the automation in London was running events correctly, but the mixer wasn't cutting them to air.

The problem at 9:30pm was with the power to the mixer.

The BBC NI apology caption was also far better laid out than the seemingly identical - apart from the BBC Two box - Scotland and England versions.

Oooh, we'll take that as a compliment then. Very Happy
