BBC TWO Logos 1991-Current

Well, Firecracker, Optic, Neon, Powder & Paint made it through to Round 3, 4 of which were in Round 1 with Firecracker being the new edition. Garden, Balloon, Copper Cut-Out, Dog & Car have now been eliminated from the poll. Only a couple more rounds after this, which '2' will come out on top! Remember the top 5 go through to Round 4 and another 5 will be eliminated! The choice is urs!!!!!!

It has to be 'Steam' - the greatest BBC2 ident in the world...EVER!!!

I like the 'Neon'. I always remember this one when I was younger for some reason, and I always loved it when it came on! Don't ask me why!

I always presumed Neon was the one with the Insect-ocutor - but I guess that's Zapper?

I like Optic, though Powder is good - it's cool how it includes the colours from the previous TWO ident, and Wave is nice too.

Like u Gary I remember seeing Neon when i was about 6 or 7, that was when I either watched Captain Scarlet, Stingray or Thunderbirds, I never really used to pay much attention to the idents then, I just noticed them, then this year I took note of them. When I used to record Captain Scarlet and stuff I didn't get the full 2 ident becos i would only press the record button when i saw the ident, on one tape which has survived from 1991 possibly a bit later, it's got Paint, Optic, Silk and Balloon but only a couple of seconds then the program comes on, I wish I collected them before! Still I'm taping Captain Scarlet at the moment on 2, it's just like the old days, different 2's mostly though!

For me, Paint - the first 2 introduced in 91 - has to win! I clearly remember Neon and Optic from when I was about 6, when I was at home watching early morning Daytime On 2 in my room, bla bla bla...

I've always loved the Paint, Powder and Blade 2's as characters, all of which open the idents in their own dramatic ways. To me an ident has to identify it's preceeding channel, and the 2's do that perfectly, ie BBC2 show all drama, so the idents are dramatic! The font of the 2 itself is very versatile, as I learnt on an old 'How Do They Do That' show back in 95, this bloke said it's a very different 2... it's got sharp edges and curves etc... so they can do a lot with it. Quite rightly, there's more to the beloved 2 than meets the eye!

...No, I ain't swallowed an encyclopedia, this is all brain talk!  I just hope they keep the 2s (well, it is tradition, like BBC1's globe's been around for yonks), but in a different form! Er, yep, you know what I mean...

It's the one I remember the most. I sometimes used to scare me when I was little.

Me too!! Probably the eerie music that goes with it...

It never scared me until I saw it on Closedown 11 months ago...

i like em all (obviously) ... oh except the venus fly trap, as bbc 2 midlands have used it almost non-stop since june (so it annoys me)

optic is my number 1 - the music is enough for my vote - the amazing visuals are a bonus.  i dare say its a timeless piece now, and i think its a shame the music isnt used to a large extent (eg. backing to a saturday night schedule or something)

powder, neon, the 2 paints, steam, car and the 2 waves also score highly in my oppinion (oh and garden)
i also reakon they should have removed blade instead of firecracker

I also find the early ones like Paint and Blade rather nostalgic, as I was still at secondary school when they were introduced - and that seems like an eternity ago! And it's nice that four of the originals are still in use, as in a world of constant change it's good that something has stayed the same for ten years.

And I have all of them on video - except Paper Cut-out and Glass (and Garden first time round).

Nice 2 hear some comments about people's first memories of the '2' idents, they must stay, it would be nice 2 see some more new ones and some old ones brought back, hopefully this could happen. My favourite used 2 be Powder, but I think it has to be either Copper-Cut Out or Optic. It's a shame some of the classics are now not in use. Not only have the four originals survived but Optic and Powder are now nine years old as mentioned last week by somebody, i thought they must have been cos I remember seeing them before I got Sky in 1993, it's a shame Steam and Diary didn't last long as they are actually good ones, they only lasted 5 years for some reason. I absolutely hate Woodpecker for some reason, maybe it's the music, it's not very '2esque' and Aerial and Paint Pot irritate me, u can't beat the oldies.
The only ones i never saw on tv were Glass and Paper Cut-Out, I reckon these were only in use for a year!
