BBC Two Invisible Walls Ident

Is it ever played out clean longer than 4 seconds? (October 2005)

The BBC TWO Invisible Walls Ident is one of my favourite and I have noticed that almost always it is played out with this clean.
Yesterday I was off work ill and noticed that it was played four times in the space of 14 hours and every time it was always the same short bit clean as it always seems to be. You would have thought that, especially with Ceefax on air weekday mornings at 6, there would have been an opportunity to play more than 4 seconds clean, wouldn't you agree?
Or perhaps I'm just missing all of the junctions where it is used in all of its glory.
Alternatively they could always put it online...

The Invisible Walls symbol is one that lends itself to being used with a very short 'con at' point, 2 or 3 seconds in: although you'll find that NI, and perhaps Wales, will often use it with a longer 'con at' point.

Increasingly though the 'con at' points on the various symbols, as they were intended to be used, are being ignored.

Yes it was a con at 10" on BBC TWO Wales (analogue) only a few junctions ago Smile

Tune in to the next junction to see it as a con at 5" on Network or extra valuable seconds in at least one of the Nations Wink

Is there any particular reason as to why the nations have longer idents and 'con at' points or is it just that the nations are more generous than network?

I think media planners feel that the audience will switch over while the symbols are playing, unless the announcer starts to speak almost from the top. It is often requested that a symbol has 'short con' to pick up off the preceding trail, in order to reaffirm the message that has just been given in the trail a few seconds earlier!

Being further from London, the Nations have a bit more freedom; often re-writing scripts and re-ordering the trails in a junction to improve the 'look and feel' of the junction, which they consider to be as important as delivering the 'message'.

The answer to the question in the title description is 'Yes', but in the case of the recording I have, I don't think it was intentional:

Invisible Walls was played into the late film 'Superfly' on 27th Nov [hence me not posting this back when the topic was recent] with about 14 seconds clean... it was announcerless, in fact. I was waiting for the anno to kick in but it never happened. I don't know why.

Thanks for that, it is nice to hear more of it clean than 4 seconds even if it is unintentional. I'm not sure why they don't play it out a little longer at Ceefax or BBC News 24 as it is an interesting soundtrack and it isn't like they will lose many viewers from doing so at that time.

Fully agreed on that point; as it stands they've only played around 19 seconds max duration into the morning Ceefax. To date, I think the only full playout of the soundtrack itself was on the Ice Cube ident in Xmas 2003; but during the anno the music was faded out far too much; only the start and the very end were fully audible.

They could just update the BBC TWO download site and add all the long versions of the standard idents not currently available there.
