BBC TWO Idents

At last a break from the usuals (July 2005)

Over the past couple of weeks I've noticed that BBC TWO seems to use the same idents repeatedly namely Sticky Label Short, Domino Short, Formation (both) on a regular basis. I did however watch some of this afternoon's idents and was pleased to see the two 'rare' idents used - Fire then Morris Dancing. I wonder why these (and the other) idents aren't used more on a regular basis.

I've not seen Fish for a while. Of course it would help to give them a bit of distinction if they weren't all yellow.

It largely depends on what's been in the junction (perhaps a serious trail before the symbol) and the audience to whom you're addressing in the intro into the next programme.

Fire and Morris Dancing have limited use since they're somewhat specialist idents. Formation, Sticky Label, Fish, Logo - they're all pretty fail-safe and are less likely to jar with the programme they're introducing.

Another reason is time. Fire Long needs a good 9 seconds before any anno can be made - and Morris Dancing, while the intro could start after the first three seconds, again it looks better when allowed to play a bit before dipping for the anno.
