I take it you mean the 'This is BBC TWO' loop? It's not uncommon they were still showing Christmas programmes on BBC HD Preview in February. How long are the idents on the This is BBC TWO loop? You tend to get a good viewing usually.

Yes, about 20 seconds worth.

For anyone who's interested in hearing the superior NI edits (Mirror at 02:00 is significantly improved):

Round of applause for the Newsnight junction, also.

Are these new pieces of music straight off some library CDs? The Mirror music sounds like something from a commercial radio advert for a kitchen showroom.

Weren't the old ones? See the video in the first post in this thread.

Oooh, perhaps we could have a version of Zoetrope with Casino Challenge, or Seascape with Vegas Swagger 2.

Well, NI knows what's best!

EDIT: Looks like NI have decided to show the box in the middle of the Mirror ident.

Indeed - the timing of the FX are pretty spot-on there - couldn't have done any better myself.

Been spotting the symbol whenever I've dipped in over the past weeks or so - so it seems to be an NI regular now... And I've no complaints about that Smile

I believe the old Sunroof was an exception, probably the only track not specially composed.

The rest all had the signature 3-note tune which was specific to the BBC 2 music from Beetroot.

The tell-tale with Sunroof was that it didn't follow that progression - and was the only one to feature vocal samples...!

When does the RedBee contract end, and can we persuade the NI, Wales and Scotland pres teams to do a joint bid to take over? They seem to "get it" much more than RedBee.

You know, after six years of these idents, I hadn't noticed there was any form of motif in the music, but listening to them again I can hear it clearly. Shows how subtle it really was, particularly in comparison to the motif from the 2001-2007 idents.

I am a fan of musical motifs for idents. A great hook to tell people the channel they're watching.

You guys probably noticed this but on this ident they seem to be using the audio from this ident in the background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLEXtDDfidc

Have NI made this ident themselves?

As referenced in the video title, the audio is the result of the Copper and Silk tracks being mixed together.

That's right - specially created by NI to mark the Titanic Season of programmes last year, it's now in regular use.

At 1:39 in to that, you'll notice a Next menu variant that you'll not see in England.

Is that because it looks good? Oh yes and Network forgot about the existence of that Mirror clip (and the many others) produced for the original Next menus, didn't they?

Wales have a penchant for using the hot pink edition prior to the news channel simulcasts, I noticed yesterday...

You know, BBC TWO could almost build an entire package around the tent idents alone. They're a really nice concept - have various backgrounds outside of the tent in rotation, even surreal ones like the first bit of Zoetrope for example.

It's not very interesting or flexible, sure, but it's still makes something a little more consistent than what they have now.

But then again, until they drop the coloured menus... it will be anything but consistent. Razz

Goodness, so there is. As chris says, a bit subtle, but then so was the BBC One motif during some of the dancers idents.
