According to the Infax database (which is going to be so useful!) Boss Cat/Top Cat disappeared from the BBC schedules for ten years after the 1988/89 run. Checking contemporary Radio Times, the 1989 showings are still listed as 'Boss Cat', while for the next run in 1999 it has become 'Top Cat'. Interestingly though, Infax lists all showings as 'Top Cat'.

Well the Morris Dancer ident has certainly made up for any lack of use today... it was even used into the Conservative Party Political Broadcast earlier this evening!

In the United Kingdom, the show was renamed Boss Cat shortly after it premiered in 1962 (by means of a crudely substituted title card) when it was first aired on BBC television (now called BBC1) because Top Cat was the name of a brand of cat food. Of course, the dialogue and theme tune still referred to the character by his original name.

Indeed; this morning's first showing was about 30 seconds; all junctions I have seen today have used the ident.
Outside of Mayday, I would say the Morris Dancing 2's can be seen fairly often, usually once a day minimum (especially when compared to Channel 4, who have a couple of very nice idents that only seem to appear once in a blue moon).
We're in May now, and AFAIK there are no plans for any rebrand (unless it's deliberately being kept top secret among a select few, which I doubt), so unless she meant Spring 2007(!) it's a load of tosh!

Jana Bennett, BBC Director of Television gave a talk at my University today . . . she said that BBC Two is rebranding "in the spring", and they're trying to make it "less cute".
This all came straight from the horse's mouth- don't hate me if she was talking rubbish!

I wouldn't make too many assumptions. In the TV world, the Spring season often runs till the end of May.

I think I spotted a new-style trailer just before Grumpy Old Men. Pretty much the same except the title and time of the programme were in a see-through black box and smaller text, with two little purple lines. Looked quite smart, but was such a small change you wonder why they bothered. Also only seen it on one trailer - the others were as usual.
Does this mean there's a relaunch tomorrow and this trailer sneaked in early?

They've made changes to the look and sound of the '2 Night' trails a number of times; all quite subtle, and this one is similar; there's no sign of a radical image change, just a slight tweak:

Drum also put in an appearance following these junctions, into Grumpy Old Men; I was expecting to see it later with Jools, that may still be the case, though.

Looks very nice. I'd noticed they'd been playing with the trails, namely lower case and upper for certain trailers but I have to say that looks a lot nicer. Stylish to boot.
