According to http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/3293651.stm BBC Two have axed their long-running (and in my opinion, excellent) current affairs programme 'Correspondent'.

Jane Root - what planet are you on?

She went to the school next door to my old one, don't you know.

Am I right in thinking that Correspondent is shown on BBC News 24? And if so, is it being axed from that as well?

BBC Two controller Jane Root said the title Correspondent conjured up a negative association among viewers.

It is shown on News 24 and BBC World I think.

It's being axed but replaced by a 'new type' of current affairs programme - This World (probably to tie in with BBC World).

In my opinion, it's going down the road of Despatch Box and Westminster Live - axing programmes to make others 'more appealing' to viewers when in actual fact there was nothing wrong with them in the first place. (Well, my opinion anyway)

Yes, totally agree. Although the political output from the BBC is OK now, it's nowhere near as good as it once was. The old programmes did need looking at a bit in my opinion as they seemed stuck in their ways sometimes but I don't thinking axing the output as the right way and introducing a Big Brother style theme to all the programmes. (as nice as it is!)

Despatch Box was an excellent programme, and again - as good as This Week is - you won't beat Despatch Box. I always loved the nightly paper reviews for amusing political stories, and the variety of guests. Wednesdays would always be entertaining with "the press gang" look at PMQs. Brillo also helped lift the spirit of the programme, and it was EXCEPTIONALLY good in it's last few weeks. But I think the all time best moment remains when Steven Norris announced that he didn't care about the licence fee and just wanted to watch Emmerdale.

Shame about Correspondent - but what's next? Horizon? I wouldn't be surprised. Never a regular viewer of Correspondent though, I must admit but there were a good one or two that I sat down and watched. Nothing wrong with the programme. Oh no, sorry...I forgot it probably gets under 30 million viewers so it MUST be axed. Rolling Eyes
