Replace the text with a BBC logo and maybe add a few more swimmers and there's a new ident right there.
Why isn't there a consistent approach to which 2 is being used?
BBC: Either use the former shape or the more recent shape, but don't keep chopping and changing between the two (if you'll pardon the pun ).
My preference would, without doubt, be to use the former all the time, as it's shape is quirky and slightly odd which makes it interesting, as opposed to a consistent thickness throughout and without any slight elongation anywhere, and so boring and predictable.
Because attention to detail isn't their strong suit?
Design agency Vincent has been working with BBC Two dating back to the 2007 Thursdays are Funny strand and the 2008/9 "goings on" (recent work includes the Springwatch, Nigella and Dragons Den stings/idents). It's possible they're blindly using "their '2'" and no-one at the BBC cares enough to say otherwise. The difference is minor; a careful brand owner would be on top of it but the BBC has become lax in recent years, in far worse ways than this many would argue (budget cuts, et al).
The L-N '2' design is a classic, at least it's back in some form.

Maybe there a copyright claim over who can create more" 2"
I'm assuming that, to the untrained eye, the two 2s look so similar, they don't bother trying to decipher which one to use. I didn't realise they modified it until people on here started pointing it out.
Thank Christ someone said it! I don't get how the LN 2 is any more 'interesting' or 'odd' than the one they introduced in 2007 - IMO they are pretty much indecipherable.

The only reason I'm aware there's more than one '2' is because people have mentioned it on here... and I still can't tell the difference

I wonder if we could see a return of Wave, Water or Excalibur for it as they'd probably be the most appropriate if it doesn't get a trailer matching ident of its own.

Really? I never noticed the difference either until it was pointed out on here and someone put up a picture of the two shapes side by side. But after seeing that, I can't help but notice.
I'm disappointed in you, TV Forum! I've always thought there was a clear difference between the two '2's. Even if you can't describe it, you can just tell there's just something wrong about the new one.

I looked at the differences between the two '2's, through previous presentation used over the years.
The '2' used from 2007 onwards is chunkier, and out of place in regards to proportions. Simply put, it pales in comparison to the 1991 '2'.
