If there's one thing that I do like about the revival of the old idents, it is specifically the use of Silk. Not only is it a great ident, both in sound and vision, but it is perfect for the more serious or sombre announcements, such as into last night's Hillsborough documentary.
NYTV, ToasterMan and Jonny gave kudos

Copper cut-out is the essence of a morning ident, the soundtrack just suits it, and is not brash at all.

More interesting design than is the norm, for this promo, shown on NI before Newsnight (I do wish they'd use the former 2 shape, though).

I'm 90% sure BBC2 NI used that for something previously, with an interesting lime green box if memory serves. It's very nice, as you'd expect from their team.

You're right. It was used three years ago, for the same season of historical documentaries. Though it's been slightly modified 😉

Yes, Silk is superb. The thought that has undoubtedly gone into it's concept and production is so evident. The wonderful soundtrack is eerie and haunting. I must have seen/heard it thousands of times but it never, ever bores me.

The only fly in the ointment, for me, is that I just can't bare to see what Network, Wales and Scotland have done to it with that hideous white box. I don't subscribe to the notion that the 90s idents which have a centralised placement of the onscreen 2, sit comfortably with an off-centre logo slapped on them, and the use of white somehow adds insult to injury, although I get why white was the chosen colour. Everytime I catch Network's playout of it, I think to myself it shouldn't look as bad as it does ...but it does.

Am I the only who feels like the shape of the 2 in the original 1991 set looked inconsistent at the times, remember how Crystal Ball was withdrawn in late 1993, because of the bury 2? Well on the Shadow ident, the 2 looks like it was outstretched & distorted horribly.

Also, the shape of the 2 in the Water idents looks slightly off, too, (the top not matching up with the base).

That's the whole point of those idents. Shadows are distorted and water magnifies stuff.

Yes, I feel you are the only one. Of course the 2 in Shadow looks distorted. Imagine a lamp shining a light from a distance away onto a revolving 2 shape, and its shadow being cast onto a white wall etc. You would expect to see a distorted shadow cast onto the wall as it revolves. I am similarly mystified with your comments on Water. The 2 'below' the waterline would appear like this because of light refraction, the same as if you look below the waterline at a drinking straw in a glass of water. All entirely correct. I don't understand your points. I'm guessing Physics is not your strong suit.

I know that this is a fake, though what would it be like if BBC Two did adopt this style, later this year?

The "You've Been Scammed" end board is so appropriate!

I saw Callum Precious and instantly lost all interest in this. How many accounts and hints does he need on all the websites he pollutes before he gets the hint?
