Not sure how new it is but BBC Two are recycling the "squeaky dog" ident (save for the bit where it does a flip, so the 2 simply shuffles back and forth) with some kind of psychedelic disco feel to it under the tag "Sundays Don't Stop". This was used prior to both Family Guy episodes tonight. Not sure whether I now want to be sick or not.
*edit* going back to Page 48, this was mentioned but somebody expected it to appear before Family Guy and it didn't.*

I can also say Scotland had its own branded version, so hopeful this will continue to be used by Glasgow. I believe it was only done so because of the T in the park slides etc.

Anyone else falling out of love a bit with these classic idents the more the BBC use them. They were great for nostalgia value at first but now it's just depressing this is what BBC2 has become.

Totally agree with you. BBC Two needs to get its branding sorted out. It seems to be all over the place at the moment.

I think I'd still love them if they hadn't made such a botched job of bringing them back. I can't love them with badly aligned, badly sized and badly positioned, ugly graphics overlaid on them. The lack of care with which they've been brought back, exemplified by the stretched 4:3 version of Silk, actually does our fond memories of these great idents a huge disservice.
I might feel differently if I lived in Northern Ireland, although the stacked, centered logo still looks rubbish... just less rubbish than the teal box.
I think it might be a good moment to just recap contemporary Network BBC2 branding theory:
Commission a cohesive new identity, launch it in February 2007.
12 months later
decide although it's quite nice, it's a little safe and pedestrian. Hatch a plan to not replace the idents (although we accidentally ordered too many, let's kill a few) but completely rip up their supporting presentation and turn the channel mood on its head.
Abandon the planned relaunch. "Fix" the problems (turns out cyan text isn't readable, who knew) and instead launch
still
tonally misguided, *somehow* less executionally botched surrounding presentation in June 2009. Leave it on air, untouched, for 6 years, allowing everything to degrade around it to such a point the best bet is to leave anniversary idents on air.
Then cover up the fault line sized cracks with vintage wallpaper. But don't bother to paste it within a cohesive identity, just leave the dirty hangover mess out on the floor for everyone to see. And if one doesn't quite fit just stretch it out a bit. Don't worry, BBC Two HD will iron out that grain...
They're using idents they know to be popular without really understanding what made/makes them so, as evidenced by some of the recent special additions. The all round tone of the channel was integral and that's absent at present (and has been for a
loooong
time).
However, taken in isolation, I do like seeing the classic idents, I can't lie; I don't watch much live TV at all, so I haven't been overexposed to them, it just makes me smile when I see one pop up on a big TV. We won't see that kind of dedicated craftsmanship again.

I agree with everything you say, except the last part (in bold). The centralised NI logo looks great with these idents IMO. Do you have any alternative ideas about the logo that you could see as an improvement over NI's logo?
