Depends what you mean by up-scaled.

An SD BBC logo has been freshly added to SD copies of the clean idents. As BBC Two comes from an HD transmission area, the SD idents have either been up-scaled when dubbed to server.... Or they are being up-scaled live between the SD server ports and HD mixer.

I don't get the fuss, Paper cut out was the least used/relevant ident compared to some of the greats which are being overlooked by network. It's more than likely the least likely to return too.

We were talking about Northern Ireland; although I'm totally with you regarding the greats which are being overlooked by Network.

No way they could've gotten Crystal Ball out looking fine in widescreen. Even ignoring the visibility issue with the 2.

And is it just me or does that BBC logo look faked. Too sharp

Do bear in mind Justin that the software Francis used for that mock does degrade the quality of the video.

Network could easily bring out Wave Day, Wave Night, Excalibur and Catalyst to add more variety. They along with Kebab, Woodpecker and Predator all had premature deaths when the whole set was axed. They were obviously designed to last a lot longer.

The clouds kind of look like the ones in the opening credits of The Simpsons.

Someone had to point this out

Don't forget you've got to accommodate the accursed teal badge. It doesn't really work when paired with the idents that have the '2' flat and horizontally centred:

*

Coupled with the deliberate space left vertically for the 1997 logo to go, it looks awkwardly unbalanced. The idents that have the '2' moving or slightly off-angle (ie all the ones Network are showing) just about get away with it.

Out of the more "modern" ones they're not airing, "Aerial" would probably work best (read: least worst) with the teal box.* Although you could argue the analogue break-up effect is rather antiquated... ...in fact there's an idea right off the bat: an updated version of the aforementioned but with digital artifacts intermittently marring the picture instead.

Because I think that's what we'd all really love to see - new idents that adhere to a similar high production standard, which wouldn't necessarily be that costly to realise.

*edit: just tried it in Photoshop, looks horrible, the box is Kryptonite.

True. The box still looks horrible anyways with the current set. Is it really that hard for them to adopt the NI boxless logo?

I think Lambie Nairn's copies are clean, and they added the BBC logo themselves when they uploaded them to their YT channel so they can be seen how they were supposed to be seen.

BBC2 aired 'there's loads to love on BBC2' promo just before the Snooker at 10am, which features the Car 2.

Its amazing! They have put in one gram of effort! Something that looks pretty good coming out of this for once. Though It would've also been nice if they used this

Lovely that, reminded me of the tail end of this (cc: Paul Clark).

I won't even criticise the stupidity of the hashtag.
