More serious expressions with the opening shot than the previous version.
Maybe an opportunity to make one or two changes to the CGI aspect of the ident was missed? Unless I've missed something subtle, it appears identical.
And the obvious inconsistency with the use of the boxless logo. Though it is preferable to that big teal monstrosity.
One oddity I've since noticed was made clear with the use of two playouts this evening, the first used for the 10 minute short programme at 7.50pm which acted as a brief introduction to the new Dragons, and then again at 8pm for the first episode (which had a pre-recorded anno by Evan Davis). I uploaded the former playout as it was the longer of the two. The latter playout's boxless logo faded up from pretty much the first frame (during the initial shot), whereas the former playout's logo faded up at a later point after the second shot (last one before the end shot) appears. Go figure. NI's two playouts were the same.

Was the one with the pre-recorded announcement also of inferior picture quality?

The PQ was the same on both playouts. No loss of quality on the pre-recorded anno version.
Have a look at this split screen upload I've made to compare the commencement of the logos on each respective playout:
Minor promo endcap tweak, as shown on the new
W1A
trail.
Although it seems like this has been introduced to coincide with a new season of comedy programming, the BBC TWO NI Twitter account has been using this style to promote other programmes, as of late.
It does look as though the bright colours are back in force. It is perhaps a BIT of an improvement - but still generally looks crap and not the standard expected of one of the country's major channels. And all still in SD - sigh. What exactly is the holdup with producing trails in HD? It's 2017! Can't help but feel an opportunity has been missed - to shift that logo box further off to the right. The positioning looks even more off now with the larger programme title text. Who knew these dire trail endboards would last so long. Get used to Oneness folks.
The promos are being cut and produced in HD, however, I'm guessing its to do with the delivery requirements to Ericsson. UKTV has a similar issue.
I was almost sure I read somewhere that the new contract with Ericsson was supposed to get us to a place where playout of the trails was HD. I have in my head that the new contract was to start earlier this year - but could be wrong.
EDIT: having just performed a quick search online, the only reference I can find is that "the current contract runs until 2017".
