There's a mention on the letters page of the new Radio Times that following a complaint the Kebab ident has been dropped following the Grenfell fire story (it doesn't mention it by name but it's clear that is the one they are referring to).

Not a great miss, and a chance to replace with something better and more abstract.

Wave or Excalibur would be great.

What about Catalyst as well, over in Northern Ireland? Has it been dropped?

If Kebab has indeed been dropped from use, I’m not even sure I’m surprised. I’ve seen it sporadically pop up, even more so since Network added Optics and Garden.

Update: so it’s thanks to the work of one snowflake that this ident was dropped. Wow, just wow.

That's pathetic. I'm fairly sure people can discern a kebab being cooked from a tower block fire (unless the BBC are now pandering to the borderline re***ded). They might as well remove the Milk sting from rotation - the tragedy was caused by a fridge fire after all! Car should be discontinued too in case some poor soul mistakes it for Khalid Masood's Hyundai.
Larry the Loafer, tmorgan96 and Rex gave kudos

If BBC Two or BBC Two NI brought back the Personality idents around the time Grenfell Tower disaster, the Fire ident would be dropped.

Unbelievable !! If it had been a showing of The Towering Inferno , perfectly understandable, but the Kebab ident ? !

Did the BBC actually bow to pressure from the individual that complained ? I didn't realise one person could exert such influence on an international broadcaster.

This is just an observation, I'm not really in agreement that it should be dropped, certainly not for any extended length of time.

The reason is due to the exact nature of how the fire spread, i.e. flames shooting up floors. Flames are seen rising up fiercely in the ident a couple of times.

I think in the circumstances that they have plenty of others to choose from, resting this one ident for a short period until Grenfell isn't in the news on a daily basis is not an unreasonable call to have made.

We might be waiting a while then.

Sorry but bad and tragic things happen to people every day, always has done, and always will.

4.5 people EVERY DAY are killed on the UK's roads, so shouldn't anything car related be pulled permanently ?

The collective grief thing is starting to get a little out of proportion now.
