There are some very fair points in your above post.
I could always squeeze the still slightly to amend the shape of the 2 more in keeping with how it should be, but then there would be mild black bars top and bottom, unless I zoomed into it slightly

NOOOOOOOO!!!
There you go. The same still but with the authentic 2. (You've sucked me back into my purist ways). Happy now?
Because of the leaders special of Question Time followed by the news on BBC One, Have I Got News for You is on BBC Two next week at 10pm which is of course its classic timeslot before it moved (first to 9pm in 1999 and then to BBC One in 2000). With the 90s idents they're playing at the moment, it'll be a bit of a time warp.

Interesting inconsistency in the design of the respective logos across BBC2 for the
St Peppers Musical Revolution
trail (haven't seen Scotland's trail yet).
It's very clear the Nations have superimposed their logo and ensured Network's very light blue logo has been completely covered by enlarging their one slightly. Northern Ireland has partially retained the colouring as per Network's. Wales hasn't even attempted to adopt the colour scheme.
Interestingly the white on cyan of network, and the cyan on white of NI are both colour combinations which fail a contrast ratio check*, so might be difficult for people with sight issues to read. Maybe not a big deal for a logo but still not great.
* I only know this because we have a similar shade in the corporate palette where I work and I made myself a bit more unpopular with our Marketing team by pointing out their accessibility fail
