Absolutely baffling that they can use something as good as this like what, once a week? What a mess this channel is.
There is scope for an ident like this to be extended to a full pres package - embodies the BBC TWO of today and looks to the 90s idents as inspiration.
I just don't think the BBC knows or cares about their look or brand any more, nor can they afford to. This isn't the 90s any more, sadly.
I mean, are TV idents in general a bit of a dying art form, in the loosest sense? The last decent idents I remember were Sky Movies' 2011 ones with the 360-degree views (urban, period, fantasy, Western, sci-fi). They were epic, fantastic and memorable to watch. But that was six years ago. Stuff like that is rare now.

There's still some decent idents on the screens - Sky1 and Sky Cinema's current set proves that CGI isn't dead yet for idents as a whole. ITV3's combination of CGI and 2D animation is exquisite. W's presentation mix of live action and CGI is impressively good. Comedy Central pres is simple, yet effective. Yes, these are all multichannels, but they can at least produce classy presentation.
There is still scope to produce decent TV presentation. ITV and Channel 4 (and Channel 5 to an extent) are decent. The BBC has played it safe with the inconsistent branding and the like, but the catastrophe that is the Oneness pres package will be a stark lesson to learn - and in the process revitalising the pres of their two main channels.

I'm still not gonna rule out "two-getherness". At least that pun actually makes sense.

Are you seriously including BBC Northern Ireland in that statement?

BBC2’s live European Athletics Championships coverage began with a temporary fault, due to a power cut at the stadium.
This is what Network showed:
and Northern Ireland:
I don’t know about Glasgow, but Cardiff took the Network feed.
I have to say, Northern Ireland usually gets things right with pres and I have very much got used to this state of affairs, but to be fair to Network, their choice of music is far better and more appropriate and I do prefer the Silk animated graphic as opposed to Copper Cut Out. Just looks more interesting. Has Belfast dug out a CD of Sinatra’s backing band, or what?

NI certainly seem to care more, but their execution often isn't quite right. I'm not sure what good it does for the brand if they tweak things how they think they should be done (i.e. the logo on the idents) - it certainly doesn't help the channel's already quite significant image and consistency problems.

BBC NI have to do what they can with what they are given by network.
It may look inconsistant but that's only because network is and I disagree they are making it worse. They have made it less boring by increasing the number of idents for a start.
