It's nice, but a bit boring with just the inner two bulbs illuminating on and off. Why not section off the outer pink bulb and have different sections of it illuminating on and off at various points, with once every few seconds the whole thing lit up together to reveal the full 2 logo?

To viewers back in the day who had, until quite recently, been used to static, mute soundtrack symbols, something like this was like a firework going off, in comaparision.

I did think along the lines that you suggested, but the bulbs are one whole continuous filament all the way round so coudn't really be done like that.

I was toying with the idea of having the outer pink filament suddenly randomly flickering a couple of times before dying and cutting out altogether near the end of the sequence, along with suitable sound effects, but it might make it appear gimmicky.

It was also a time with channels using computer graphics to do their idents. Lambie-Nairn going with filmed models made the idents standout. Classy, stylish and timeless. The fac they still work and look good now is testament to how good those originals were and the brief subsequent ones worked to.

BBC2 NI Sign "Mk II" (Flicker version):

There's a fine line between adding interest and creating a gimmicky feel. Hopefully, I've got the balance about right here and not used the flickering effect too much.

I wish the pink link would flecker more.

There's always that temptation at the editing stage, but effects like this should be used sparingly IMO.

Gorilla Tantrum was shown as a sting on BBC TWO before Mastermind today.

Just happened to be watching BBC2 Wales this afternoon. Since when have they been using Optics ident?

Any further info on whether Optics has been reinstated outside Wales?

I've since got more information. Cardiff was sent a clean copy of Optics file from Network, for them to add their logo, and use immediately.

My capture [above], (17-02-2017, 6.30pm) was the 1st TX of its reinstatment on BBC2 Wales. The 1st TX was penciled in to be on Thursday 18th, but reinstated a day earlier.

As the file was sent by Network, it seems highly likely that Network and Scotland are about to use it also (if they haven't done so already - I haven't been glued to either of them the last few days).

Don't know about Wales but Scotland showed it at the head of the same junction as well.

Impossible to think there won't be both Gorilla idents added to Network's set before too long(?)

Wales aired the Swan sting, as did NI, IIRC.

Ni showed Whirlwind.

BBC2 HD's playout of the Gorilla Tantrum sting seems a touch dark. More of the gorilla is in silhouette than NI's Gorilla idents.

On a related but different point, Scotland's Duck ident seems to have a different tonal quality compared to Network's etc. Also, Fluffy Dog has clipped highlights on all BBC2 Nations, resulting in a loss of detail in the highlights compared to its original run, in the '90s..
