Talking of logos, if BBC2 NI gets a HD channel (hopefully, possibly next year?), I assume that means the approximately forty idents will be having their centralized logos swapped for HD resolution equivalents, in the same way the logos of BBC1 NI HD's circle idents had.
The logos used on these idents are all HD resolution.
NI have made the current stacked BBC TWO logo look as good as it can with these idents, IMHO. Centralized, which is what the 90s idents cry out for and look naturally best with, and boxless, so it doesn't overly distract.
In an ideal world, yes, a centralised logo would be great. And the 1997 - 2001 logo worked well in that respect. However, that boxless stacked logo just isn't substantial enough to carry off the job successfully. The box gives the logo a bit more bulk - and makes it look better, proportionately, against the '2'. Unfortunately, a centralised boxed version of the logo would look very silly I think. Having the boxed logo positioned off to the right (roughly where it was for the 50 Years idents - and the same size as that particular version of the boxed logo) would work quite nicely. Just my opinion. This smaller version of the boxed logo does still pop up occasionally - and whilst I think it looks better - it does make the region name that little bit smaller too.

Arr. They were done with the future in mind. So, when BBC2 NI get a HD channel, there's nothing to update.
Personally I think it'd look quite nice if they used the centre aligned, 'stripped' logo but with the current typeface.

No one, single place I could post this, and not worthy of a new thread, but Newsnight had an item on archive TV last night. By chance, I happened to capture some of it:
There's a nice, though all-too-brief, ident compilation at 1:03, showing glimpses of the following idents and other pres:
Although there's no figure two, and doesn't fit in with the usual presentation ( whatever qualifies as that nowadays! ), I like this ident as it seems fresh and a bit more dynamic, without being a cliche ident.

There create an ident for this and only use it in England?
