Firstly my apologies if this is already being discussed elsewhere, but this may be of interest to some of you ident-spotters out there...

BBC TWO is to unveil its latest campaign for comedy, which will include some new idents from tomorrow (if I've read that correctly!)...

BBC Broadcast posted:
The BBC TWO figure, which has traditionally been seen in an enclosed environment, will venture into the real world for the very first time in a canine-like role, partnering with key BBC TWO Comedy faces - including Catherine Tate, Stephen Fry, John Bird, Rob Brydon and Jon Culshaw – and invariably stealing the punchline.

The cast of BBC TWO comedy Absolute Power and Catherine Tate's schoolgirl character will feature in the first two sketches, four more comedy shorts will launch later in the campaign. In addition to the sketches, BBC TWO will also launch a series of idents for Thursday night comedy.

It was on BBC Three start-up too. Not a drop of yellow to be seen.

So it seems they've realised how limiting the yellow/white/computer geenerated ones are and are going full circle to what they were before. Just ditch them and bring back a bit of variety, have a mixture of computer generated, stop frame and animation. I think sometimes that the state of a channel is reflected in its idents. BBC2 (boring and moribund) compared to Channel 4 (quirky and unexpected).

One of the new trailers is up and running on the BBC comedy website.

Hmm..so Fluffy Dog is back, albeit drained of colour. Be interesting to see whether the idents are just short versions of these trails.

Anyhoo, thanks to a wild guess at the filename, here's the second one! http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/comedy/bbctwocomedy/ram/bbctwotrailer_absolutepower?size=16x9&bgc=AE6D6D&nbram=1&bbram=1

It's about time that a new ident was launched all though most of the recent ones have all been specialist, likewise it looks like these are. The last regular used one (IIRC) is Sticky Label from Novemeber 2003 with Fire (2004) being restricted, Morris Dancing (May 2005) and now these comedy idents.
Nonetheless it will still be nice to get a new ident(s) to the set and at least we know that in these junctions we won't be stuck with Sticky Label Short or Formation Short.
