One thing I'm wondering- will elections be moving back to TC1, or will they be staying in Elstree D? Especially as they've set up all the comms and stuff there.

Surely it has to be better for everyone to have the studio in London. They done ok with getting guests to Elstree but I imagine White City would offer many more options...

BBC Elstree is a secure stand alone site with no public access - TVC is sadly no longer that. Leaving the studio scenery doors open and an unguarded scenery runway isn't going to be an option.

Sadly, you only need to look down the other end of Upper Ground, to the opulent One Blackfriars development, so see why ITV would want to build a huge and highly lucrative residential development: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/buy/one-blackfriars-an-exclusive-look-inside-the-vase-londons-newest/

Elstree might be better in some respects as for any politicians coming in from their constituencies it's arguably more convenient than White City - most of them will be north or west of London.

The next day it's mostly Westminster based so Elstree might as well be W12, W1 or Osterley for all or matters

In 2015, I had a look at the AA Route Planner, based on Michael Portillo being in the BBC studio in 1997 before going to his count at Enfield Southgate. Taking the postcode of Southgate College - N14 6BS - it points out that it's thirteen miles from W12 7RJ, taking 31 minutes, but only eight and a half miles from Elstree Studios at WD6 1JF, taking twenty minutes.

In any case, even if the elections move back, they've certainly had plenty of use out of Elstree over the past few years.

They will remain in BBC Elstree's Studio D for this election, as the studios at Television Centre will not be opened until 1st September 2017.

Whether it is separate from BBC Worldwide or not, BBC Studioworks is a commercial arm of the BBC and therefore is nor funded by the public money of the licence fee.

On the other hand, W12 is something of a midpoint between Osterley and Grays Inn Road...

2014 euro elections, 2015 General election, 2016 referendum and now this year's GE- a lot more use than they would have been expecting when they kitted it all out- only the first 2 were predicted.

And the first of those was pretty much a rehearsal of the latter, the European elections previously coming from N9.

Studio D is larger than TC1 by 1,000 Sq Ft extra space, so the impact of BBC election night is always great.

ITV have decided to just squeeze themselves into their virtual studio. Remember that 1997 and 2001 elections when they used the large space of the atrium at Grays Inn Road? Good effort from them to create a large impact on studio size.

I can be sure they will still use the recycled 2015 election studio design with the odd minor tweak.
