thegeek, thanks for posting that. I actually missed it at the time!
Alas we saw none of the above. They showed us TC1 from the viewing gallery; they had just started to work on the Strictly set, but there was nothing recognisable. They took us to see the old MOTD set as expected (TC5?) and we also popped into to TC6 where Matt Allwright was filming the opening sequence of the new "Rogue Traders" section on Watchdog. The bit where he gets off the motorbike. This was clearly unplanned and whereas it wasn't especially exciting, it was good to see something actually going on! He spoke to us briefly and as you may imagine, made a reference to the fact he was now doing the section on his own.
We were on the last tour of the day and I got the impression that they were trying to hurry us out so that they could get off to the pub. We were told it would take between 1.5 and 2 hours, but even with a stop in the shop, we were walking out of the building after 1.5 hours. I was a little disappointed really. They even cut short the pointless "interactive" bit at the end - it looked like it should have consisted of a quiz and some sort of news bulletin, but we only did the quiz. It wasn't recorded and played back to us or anything like that.

How did it go in the end? I was tempted by next Saturday but looks like the tickets have gone. They do some late afternoon tours, I wonder if you'd still be able to see TC1 at that time as surely they'd be getting it ready for Strictly?

Well TC5 was SD and TC7 is SD - very little call for SD studios these days. Not much point re-equipping either of them with permanent HD kit for the short term - though both could be used with HD flypacks (effectively flight-cased or temporarily rigged facilities) - and their sound and lighting areas would still be useful (if still in-situ) even if their vision stuff wasn't.

If TC5 still has MOTD set up, and the gallery is being stripped out - there's obviously no demand for that size studio space now, or in the future... is that the case?
If TC7 is going the same way (e.g. keep a BBC news set up once they've vacated), it really starts to indicate many parts of TVC are ceasing to be operational anymore - which is sad!
I'm sure TC1 will still have many uses for some time to come yet!
