I couldnt believe my eyes when i was watching the film around 22:45 last night on BBC Three about half way through the film we get the title of the film on a caption with an announcer saying "We'll be back with the current film after the latest news in 60 seconds" Thats even worse than ITV for having a news break for half an hour during a film or an hour programme!. Why cant they of just waited until 23:00 to show the 60 seconds news update?.

If they were "half way" through the film, 15 more minutes would not have taken you to the end.

It was the DCMS which decreed that there must be a certain number of news bulletins on BBC THREE.

What's worse - a 60 second break, or a 30 minute one?

Indeed.

And at least if you were dying for a piddle, you'd get a chance to go.

Another great contribution.

The film (The Jackal) ran from 9.45 - 11.45 so I guess the break the topic starter is complaining about was at 11.00.

Like so many of the weak points of BBC Three, they exist because of the DCMS being over zealous.

Isn't that the argument used in favour of commercial channels ?

Anyway, the half hour news break during a film is hardly exclusively an ITV thing is it ? Look at what BBC One have been doing on Friday nights these past few weeks.

Oh and whilst I'm at it, if there was ever a channel that had an over reliance on a single programme, BBC Three is it, with Little Britain. Whenever I seem to be browsing past the channel it is always there. Rolling Eyes

BBC3 is pathetic at the minute. It seems to peak and fall and then as it can't just buy or repeat normal shows it has to repeat it's own. Another stupid rule enforced badly by that moron in charge. Axing LN was a disgrace.

I notice BBC1 have Deep Impact on AGAIN! It seems to be their version of Bond on ITV.

Hoorah! An anti-BBC thread at last! Wink

Surely there is a time and place for a sixty second update and if so put one immediately before the film and one straight after - throughout the broadcasting day on BBC Three i'm sure there would be enough news bulletins to satisfy the DCMS (or whatever he is called!)

ITV 1(and BBC 1 to a certain extent) are in a catch 22 situation where, ITV especially, were critisised for moving News At When around the schedule but now they are building their schedule around a static News at 22:30:00 - things will have to be adapted.
Films will have to be cut in halve to satisfy the news always starting at exactly the same time.

I really used to enjoy watching BBC Three but it, along with SKY¦One, Bravo, UK Gold and Challenge, have all become very poor of late where other offerrings like ITV2, ITV3, E4 and Living have got a much more varied (and watchable schedule.)

I cannot believe the amount of repeats of Little Britain that BBC Three show and I feel it is overkill. Channel 4(and E4) suffered the same with the overuse of The Simpsons and Friends and something needs to be done about it!

I like seeing 60 Seconds news updates whenever I watch Three. Better than a 30 minute break on ITV1.
