I have to ask - why don't we hear the same level of requests for a Welsh or Northern Ireland Six? They have the same issues of devolved matters being covered in the supposed National bulletin from the English perspective.
It's a valid complaint, more than ever at the moment, but I actually think it goes further than Broadcasting and is a side effect of how the political system hasn't kept up with devolution.
What we really need is an English Parliament to handle matters which are devolved in the other nations. That would not only free up the UK Parliament's time to deal with matters which affect the whole of the UK, but would also stop the nonsense of the UK Health Secretary being the de-facto English Health Secretary. Clarifying that might have the side effect of fixing some of the poor reporting.

I've been wondering that myself - does it come down to Wales Today (and Newsline) actually doing a much better job than Reporting Scotland does of dealing with our own national stories?
Of course more legislation, but not in the key matters of health and education, also applies to England and Wales than to Great Britain or the UK as a whole, and Scotland is effectively further down the devolution track and has a stronger nationalist voice than Wales at least (I'm not even going there with NI).
There are pros and cons to a Scottish Six - and TBH if you have a Scottish Six you might as well have a Scottish Ten as well. And I've not thought this through at all but a Scottish version of the BBC News Channel may actually be more beneficial than the BBC Scotland Channel - would likely still largely be simulcasts but a primetime Scottish service would probably be worth while.
I really think reporting Scotland needs to be more regional, I live in the Edinburgh area so news in my area is mostly covered but almost nothing from the north and islands at all. They should have at least what stv has with the west, east and north. Even if it was just southern and northern regions, some people in the north of Scotland must feel just as disconnected from Edinburgh and Glasgow as some Scots do from Westminster.
Spot on. BBC Scotland was often referred to as BBC Glasgow on the East coast. BBC Scotland seems more interested i n empire building than providing a proper regional service. Was one of the reasons Grampian was so loved and its loss much lamented.
Where are the comedies and Dramas from outside Glasgow, over the last 40 years to be honest. When the started the BBC Scotland channel, they had a live theatre show from Glasgow, and I thought couldn't it have been from ANYWHERE else. Likewise River City.
BBC Scotland really don't do a very good job for most of Scotland. When you look at the facilities they have in Edinburgh its shocking for the capital city. No wonder its so Glasgow centric.
In the same way that when the news is all looking pretty grim, I like to turn to the random documentaries on NHK World for a bit of light relief, I think I'd enjoy a Highlands and Islands TV news bulletin if this is the kind of story they'd cover.
A small white duck was found on the Holm Branch Road this morning. It was very friendly so must be a pet duck.... http://t.co/D0XzuM6KaL

There have been programmes set outside Glasgow - Monarch of the Glen, Shetland, Gary Tank Commander, Bob Servant... but I agree that historically these have been outnumbered by the Glasgow based ones.
Of the newly commissioned shows for the BBC Scotland channel, I would say there has been a good mix of where things have been filmed.

Honestly, going back to the whole "THREE v. SCOTLAND" thing, here's a good idea: regional BBC Three with a an overhauled Nine serving as the National/Int'l news and a more in-depth regional bulletin opposite the News at 10, the regular regional bulletin, and the first 15 minutes of Newsnight, with each nation (or region, perhaps?) getting it's own hour-long bulletin. Having two hours of news that's different from the rest of the Beeb's news output would mean RATINGS. And then the rest of Three could be regular Three, whatever that would mean. Of course that would mean 24-hour Three, but I'm sure there's a way to figure that out.

One of the worst ideas I've read here. And I read my own posts.

Isn't it sad that this is one of the best posts I've made?

Except it isn't, is it?
Your idea for "a regional BBC Three with ... a more in-depth regional bulletin opposite the news at 10" and two hours of news screams "kill me now". There may be a reason why regional news doesn't run over 30 minutes as it is even for the main bulletin, and anything major will have already been covered on the news. What other information can you add to "factory closes, 1500 jobs lost"?
