There is certainly an argument that BBC2 lost its distinctiveness when BBC3 launched. This may not be too bad in the scheme of things.

I'd debate that BBC Four has been more damaging in that respect, which has led BBC2 to go more populist.

However, I doubt People Just Do Nothing would have been commissioned by BBC Two. It's too yoof and urban for middle England's palette.

Exactly! And I doubt BBC Two would have commissioned '2 Pint's Of Lager' either. Imagine if we hadn't have had BBC Three in 1982...who would have commissioned The Young One's?!

This delusion that the BBC had never created anything that appealed directly to the "yoof" ( Rolling Eyes urgh) before BBC Three came along and saved humanity from 'Last Of The Summer Wine' is complete bo**ocks.

Two Pints was another one of those Marmite shows which you either loved or found it to be puerile nonsense, yet it was bang on target. Personally I thought BBC Three commissioned too many episodes and once again, it played to the Daily Mail demographic that they were commissioning rubbish.

Two Pints did precede BBC Three though- the first series was on BBC 2 and the second on BBC Choice!

I'm sure that this decision was made with a heavy heart and that it would have been a very difficult decision to make.

I am sure that the people in charge have made the right choice based upon the circumstances and weighing in all of the factors at the time.

Coming of Age was another of the 'Two Pints' style commissions set in a further education college. Plenty of puerile jokes, but hated by most people over 21.

If anyone can remember there was a pilot for that shown around 18 months before the actual series, with a totally different cast including Dani Harmer (from Tracey Beaker) and Alex Kew (From My Parents Are Aliens)- presumably they saw sense and got out of it before the actual series.

All I really remember about it is one of the characters smoking what they thought to be drugs, but turned to to be someone's ashes- har har har. Sidesplitting, I'm sure you'll agree.

Spotted on YouTube, originally designed for the demise of the blob idents but may be apt when BBC Three linear closes Smile

There are about three or four other examples of these on YouTube as this presentation package was replaced in 2008.

They refuse to admit it is closing though.

Yeah, and commissioned by BBC2.
